I don't think they should be offended. They are all legit candidates, not just some token interview. Raheem Morris very well might snag another HC job either this hiring cycle or in the next couple

I'm guessing these guys were totally aware that the Giants were going to offer the job to Harbaugh, just like the rest of the football world was.

I'm guessing the Giants anticipated a comment like yours and said "let's interview a couple of extra guys so it looks good and maybe we can even pick their brains a little for free."

just because the giants like harbaugh didn’t mean a deal would get done for sure

Agree, Bijan and london are great talents and your in the NFC South which they lost on a tie breaker  this year.

True, but the Falcons have a very unsettled QB situation and no first round pick this year…not a bad job, though.

Not really much of an opportunity if all they did was help the Giants check the box.  I think the rule is an insult to minority coaches.

In some respects it is, but it's better than the good ol boys network... kind of.

Good.  They probably knew they weren't going to be hired (especially if they interviewed after Harbaugh became available), but they did the interview anyway.  Can you think of reasons why?  There are lots of white coaches who wish they could get interviewed even if they wouldn't be hired.  Can you think of reasons why?

You make my point more eloquently than I did.

The question is what this means for Joe Schoen.

Caveat:  I haven’t read through the entire thread so maybe someone has addressed this.

I spoke with a buddy of mine who’s a huge Giants fan (and not an idiot).  He said that Schoen is safe because he listens to (his words) “the idiot Mara family members who meddle.”  He said the Mara family that remain involved in the organization are a problem, but obviously aren’t going anywhere.  This is interesting to me, as I am surprised Harbaugh wants to walk into that situation.

Still, I’m very glad Harbaugh wound up in the NFC.

Now that Harbaugh is placed, I think we’ll start to see more Coaching dominos fall into place over the next week.
Always an exciting time for those fan bases with a new coach!

While the past 10 years or so hasn't been good it still doesn't change the fact that the Giants are a solid organization to work for. Since 1986 they have been to 5 Super Bowls and won 4 of them. So, 4 Lombardi trophies in the last 40 years is a pretty good record. We would all love that if the Bills had that kind of success. Plus, they took down the evil empire twice on the biggest stage and prevented them from having an undefeated season. I will always be thankful to the Giants for that.

This is really all that matters in the context of the current discussion.

To be fair the Mara's were the owners when the Giants were winning Super Bowls. So, they can't be all that bad despite this recent stretch of lousy football.

I’m pretty certain that what my friend was talking about is “new blood” rising in the organization and exerting influence over personnel decisions.  Not sure why you’re arguing this point.  The Giants have stunk for a while now and there’s got to be a reason why.

What new rising blood. Do the Mara's have kids that are involved. I have heard that Woody Johnson's son is involved with the Jets or at least that is the rumors with the NYC media. But I have read or heard nothing about that with the Giants.

This is a good hire for the Giants. I am interested to see the staff he puts together. Who will he tab for OC to work with Dart, Nabers, and Skat? Who will inherit that defense with Burns, Carter, Thibodeaux, and Lawrence? They have some pieces to work with.

It was reported on tv this morning that Harbaugh was bringing in Todd Monken as his OC.  That's good for Jaxson Dart.

True. While I understand the intent, the rule seems to result in demeaning outcomes.

What "demeaning outcomes"?   The NFL doesn't require teams hire minority HCs; it just requires them to interview minority candidates for HC openings (which has now been expanded to coordinators).   It simply opened the interview process to candidates who weren't part of the NFL's old boy network.

I am sure the Giants' leadership was deeply concerned about comments on random message boards.

Alternative explanation: they wanted to do due diligence and interview several candidates, and did so in a way that was Rooney rule compliant but without any particular focus on the Rooney rule.

Harbaugh was the last candidate the Giants interviewed, which enabled them to hire him immediately.

Good hire.

wonder if Schoen remains. Harbaugh is gonna wield a lot of influence in that building. If things go poorly, Schoen is the first head on the chopping block.

But the Giants don’t lack for talent. That DL should be incredible. Nabers comes back. Harbaugh wins 10 games and WC appearance next season I think.
