jlgarsh Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I think Cooks will be back. He won't be expensive and can still play. I also wonder if Prater would want to come back? As long as he's healthy, I trust him to make a FG if needed. Every once in a while he shanks a PAT, but both FGs were dead center, and would have been good from 55 or so yards.i dont think they need a guy who can kick a 65 yard FG to win Quote

Biggest omission is discussion of an extension for Torrence especially in light of FAs McGovern and Edwards. The Bills are going to have to find away to create an additional 60 mill in cap to be able to afford any free agents and somehow keep of the Oline intact (if that is the goal). Personally I believe at least one of the McGovern or Edwards (or possibly both) will be allowed to walk in favor of Anderson, SVPG and/or Grable. I trust Kromer to make good decisions on the line. I also don't want Beane to spend another nickel on a FA WR, unless it's keeping Cooks on a bargain deal. With Palmer, Coleman and Shakir already under contract for next season, it's time to bring in youth and SPEED at the position in the draft. Of the UFAs I can see Wishnowsky, White, Thompson, Cooks, Gilliam and Poyer returning. Milano, Edwards, AJE, Trubisky and McGovern are maybes. I don't see D Jones, Bosa, Prater, Ogunjobi or Hamlin returning. Not sure I care whether or not Cam Lewis or Franklin return. My thought is the Bills will sign one of either McGovern or Edwards. At season end whenever that might be, if the Bills make an announcement that McGovern is having some type of surgery to re[air something then my choice may change, but right now I'd sign Edwards as McGovern seems to not be as good this year. Can recall seeing a few complete whiffs. But maybe there's something wrong?? As for WR, agree with you on the three you figure will be back, Palmer, Coleman and Shakir. I think I'd like to see them sign Cooks for a modest deal, maybe not bargain and then draft a #1. The two biggest spots the Bills need help at are WR and Edge. However I think late in the 1st round, it's easier to find a good WR that an edge rusher. Of the names you state as not returning I'd try and sign Bosa again to a modest deal, but also try and either trade or sign a top Edge player so have Groot, Bosa, TBD, Jackson, and Solomon. Not sure how much Wishnowsky, but may instead try and raft a top rated punter if there is one this year? I also think both Knox and Oliver will get there contracts redone converted into a much lower number. Quote

I care very much that Sam Franklin returns. He's one of the best special teams players I've ever seen and I'm super glad we have him. He is one badass, heat-seeking missile. It's always amazing to me that so many great special teams players don't seem to be able to translate that excellence into offense or defense. Nevertheless on almost every play that he's on the field, he jumps off the screen. It sounds like you think the Bills won't win the Super Bowl? Agreed. I took the time out to look up # 28 cuz he stood out to me. 👍 1 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Not Bills related but I just saw a post on the Cowboys cap situation that I think fits well here. They’re currently $30Mish over the cap for next year. They can pull 11 levers and create $147.2M of space!! In that scenario they would part ways with a S, P and a starting OL as well as a reserve LB. None of those guys are impact players. They obviously can keep them if they want. Those 4 releases account for $26.3M of that $147.2M. They can open $120.9M of cap space without releasing anybody!! Welcome to the NFL in 2026. The Bills don’t have that level of flexibility but there will be no cap issues this offseason for them. This is a year that the Bills can make a big swing. They can get done whatever they want. Let’s hope that they don’t overspend on role players because that comes back to bite you in future years. Spend on core guys and chase stars at impact positions. That part likely comes during a trade unless they add Hendrickson or Pickens (who won’t hit the market). 1 Quote
Matt_In_NH Posted January 17 Posted January 17 They need to be ok letting “good” players go and focus on elite players 1 Quote

Your numbers may be correct, but google AI told me Browns cap hit is 18 mil with a 15 mil savings each of the next two years. He is one of the only players who could be traded pre-draft for a significant cap savings. Do the jags need a RT? Brown for BYJ straight up!? EDIT: I do want to add that I like Brown a lot and am not advocating for cutting or trading him, just that the Bills have flexibility with his contract if they chose to do so, as part of a larger roster building Edited January 17 by Pecker Quote

The cut candidates are Bass, Samuel and Rapp. Maybe Taron is a cut candidate but more likely a pay cut. Knox is an extension candidate. I don’t mean to continue chiming in but everyone worried about the cap can relax. The Bills won’t be releasing guys that they don’t want to release. They may let one of the OL go but that’s more about balancing the spend. If they bring back all of the IOL they will have an inordinate percentage of the cap dedicated to the OL. They CAN bring them all back though if they want. Please, please, please, do not worry about the cap. As long as Terry is okay with it, there are no challenges. Turf Toejam 34 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 The Bernard contract is the one that irritates me the most. Quote
