Draconator Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) I'm one to see the doctor when something feels off, and for preventive medicine. In December, I had my yearly CT Scan for being a former smoker. My PA said there were a couple of areas of inflammation that concerned her, so she sent me for a full on PET Scan. I had that yesterday, and she called me this morning, saying that the results of the PET Scan shows lung cancer. It was caught very early It is very treatable There are no signs of any cancer anywhere else in my body. My stepdaughter is an ICU Nurse at Roswell. So she was my first call after I talked to my PA. My wife asked her if Roswell was the best hospital to be seen at for lung cancer. She reassured us that Roswell has an excellent record of successful lung cancer treatments. She also gave us the name of the doctor to be seen by, and to stay away from at all costs. I'll have a biopsy I'm thinking early next week to confirm what was seen on the PET Scan. My PA feels confident all I'll need is a surgical procedure. No chemo or radiation. Of course, my doctor at Roswell will confirm that, but my PA wouldn't say that if what she saw on the scan results was anything more. I am not concerned with this at all, and neither should you. Bray Wyatt Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Best of luck to you and prayers up! My manager at my old job got a surprise diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer and he was not a smoker. This was over 10 years ago and he is still around, hoping that gives you some comfort and hope 1 Quote
Augie Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Best wishes beating this. I’m glad you found it early as that can make all the difference, as we have seen recently in our family. 1 Quote
WotAGuy Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Glad you are going to get good care and have family in the field. It’s a huge help. Preventative scans are a blessing but it’s not always easy to get insurance to cover them. 1 Quote
Wacka Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Adding you to my list of prayers. Glad you caught it early. Lost my dad to it and have a cousin with stage 4 that probably won't make it until summer. 3 Quote
US Egg Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Never a dull moment last few years for you. You've been rolling with it well. Keep up that attitude, it will serve you well. 1 Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Prayers up! by the way, the doc himself couldn’t actually call you? Drives me nuts that serious stuff like this is delegated to PAs. 1 1 Quote

I wouldn’t want my shoulder PA to do my surgery, but I’d much rather talk about things with her than the drip of a doctor who makes a simple conversation painful. My wife warned me before I met him, and he lived down to her description. The point above is well taken though, you’d expect serious news like that from a Doc, I’d think. I’m getting a new Doc, btw. Loved the PA, but he gave me bad advice even my PT knew was shaky. 1 Quote

In fact, The other day the ortho saw my wife after knee surgery, and basically said he was going to chew out the PA for not telling her the right things post-op. I see a doctor in a small practice, and it’s been refreshing. There are no PAs. See him everytime. No waiting for appointments. Will call me at home. 1 Quote
