Smart and live but he's small with not a ton of arm beyond 35.

He can probably carve out enough of a career to have it pay off for him, but he's going to have a really hard time being a reliable starter I think.

I don't know if I'd have had the guts to throw that flag in that spot either, but if that guy had, I don't think he'd have been wrong in hindsight.

Yeah, it clearly looked like PI to me, and while I get that they don't want to call it in that spot, it wasn't a hail mary. The receiver probably would have caught it with one foot in if not for the DPI. The thing is, though, even if they had called it, they'd only get the ball at the 20 and would have had probably just one play left. They still probably would have lost. I keep forgetting about the college DPI rule!

I thought that broadcast ref was wrong most of the night! On that first targeting call, he was so sure it was targeting, when it was clear the defender didn’t launch and was actually going for the ball.

Regardless, take a look at this video. This doesn’t seem like mutual hand fighting. I don’t think the ole miss receiver is grabbing the Miami player at all.

i think the most plausible explanation is that the refs were just going to let it go since it was the last play.

The pundits this morning are all in agreement it was PI.  It likely was seeing where the DB grabbed the receiver on close up.  Having said that, I understand why it wasn't called.  One of the pundits said it would open up a pandora's box of end of game flags and the refs get too much criticism as it is in the 4th quarter.   It is what it is.   At the end of the day, it was a great game!

Refs let Ole Miss DB’s play physical all game, so I can’t get too worked up on a final low percentage play where Miami does the same.

He would probably be the 4th QB taken after the 2 playing tonight and Simpson. He’s a little smaller so not all teams will love him. Maybe someone takes him 2nd though. I like him a lot. He’d be great sitting behind Stafford a year with McVay as his HC

Yeah, I think that the kid is excellent to the point that if they had even a reasonably good defense, they could have had a very good chance to win the title.

Again, jmo.

agree— at the end of the day, I think it’s tough to make that sort of call at that juncture on that play. I can kind of live with that.

still kicking myself for not going to the game. I was randomly in phoenix and could have bought a nosebleed seat!

If you didn't have a rooting interest, that would have been a great game to attend with all of the back and forth.  Sorry you missed the in-person festivity.

Yeah swallowing flags is best there. I havent seen any replay so going off memory but it looked like Baine was straight up tackled by the left tackle with Chambliss rolling that direction.

I think Miami has the talent to win it all... but man are they dumb, self sabotaging, and undisciplined.

Tossing that dude was ridiculous, he turned his head to use shoulder. Shouldn't have been thrown out, maybe a penalty.... but what I couldn't believe was the very next play that DT coming in with late hit.

Cristobal was pissed at the refs LOL I would've called a timeout and berated my own team!!

The 4 dropped INTs were absurd too. Memory a little fuzzy but atleast 3 were gift wrapped .

I think they have the talent but im picking against them because of the sloppy mistakes!

Also, they NEVER EVER EVER should've gone away from the run. 7yd rushes at will, total OL Dominance

I can’t believe people are calling that possible PI. I would stop watching if PI starts getting called in this situation. The defender was looking back straight at at the ball all the way from the time the QB released it. Defender has 100% right to the ball in that situation. This was the opposite of PI by the Pats v Shakir where the defender’ back was to the QB all the way to contact.

The direction the defender is facing is 100% irrelevant.

The first targeting was not a penalty and they appropriately reversed it.

The second one was textbook targeting. He dropped his head, led with the crown, launched into a defenseless receiver and made forcible contact with his helmet.

I thought it was clear that he was getting tossed before the flag even hit the ground.

They need to change that rule.

Absolutely absurd that player is now suspended for the first half of the National Championship Game.

By the letter of the law, sure.. there was a launch.. to where the defender thought the midsection would be.   Instead the WR fell and it ended up helmet to helmet.

Keep your head up like you're supposed to and it will never be an issue.

He's not coming out from what I understand. Agree that he will be a 1st or 2nd. The height will be an issue. But if Kyler Murray can go first overall, this kid can be a 1st round pick for sure. Also much better head on his shoulders.

Kyler Murray ran a 4.3 tho

Won a Heisman and had a stronger arm

Trinidad is probably a 4.5 guy and he's not going to be allowed to come back

I think he's a top 75 pick with how he played in the postseason.. probably not top 32
