Because it has been a brutal year for kicker injuries in the NFL. Multiple teams are onto a 2nd or even 3rd kicker. There ain't much left out there. If you cut Badgely (and they will now after this week) it's likely for a guy who has never kicked in a regular season NFL game before.

We worked out 3 mediocre kickers mid-week and figured he was best. No good kickers out there except the one with the recent suspension.

A team committed to winning would have signed Tucker.  A team who prioritizes virtue signaling (not actual virtue) over winning does not sign tucker.

We tried out 3 separate Kickers last week, and I would take literally any other unemployed former kicker right now.
