No.  But he should win it.  Nobody is more important to a team's success.

Devils advocate what do you think the Pats record be with anyone besides Maye at QB they are lucky have 6 wins right now..

If Allen has another 3 or 4 TD performance in a win against the Pats, coming off their bye, and on the road, then it's full steam ahead on the MVP hype train again.

I think the Maye and McDaniels match was perfect for the Pats. He was the Pats OC for the last three SB victories and always has been a top tier offensive play caller.

I agree but Maye has taken a noticeable huge step forward this year. Mind you I don’t expect him to win MVP this year I 💯 expect Stafford to get it

I think he has already put himself back in the race, and with a similar game next week vs NE, while outplaying Media darling Drake Maye, he might move into the driver's seat.

His only competition at this point is Matt Stafford and Jonathan Taylor.......Taylor's season is about to get a lot harder due to his QB situation, and Stafford's numbers are impressive, but he has 2 #1 receivers to throw to.

Josh Allen had a couple of off games this year, which set him back, but with a strong finish, back-to-back MVP's is still a realistic outcome!!

Go Bills!!!!!

Thoughts??

No not even close.

I know how this works as well as anyone because I do it for a living. As I have said before.

The person to ALWAYS win the MVP has the best odds at the Sports Book after the last regular season game has been played.

Right now Allen’s odds are +1400 or +1500 depending on which sports book you want to look at, which puts him in 4th place. Not even close to being back in it.

Stafford is -160 to -180 in first and Maye is second at +200. Those are the only two in it right now. You also have Love in third at +1000 but he isn’t really in it either.

Allen could play like he did yesterday the rest of the year and he still wouldn’t be in it unless Stafford and Maye both go on turnover sprees to finish the year and both have one to two turnovers every game, each game from here on out. That’s the main reason Allen isn’t in it anymore is because he has too many turnovers on the year compared to Maye and Stafford to this point.  Allen is at 12 total with fumbles + Interceptions.

So the answer is a huge No, he isn’t even close to being back in it at this point. I’m as big of Allen fan as there is also, but I’m also realistic and study this stuff for a living.

You will know when he is back in it, if he does get back in it because his odds will drop down to +250 or less.

Yeah, Stafford is on a heater this year. He looks like Stafford from 5 years ago, but he has better weapons. 35 TD's to 4 INT's is insane. BUT if Josh goes on a run and ends up 45-50 total TD's, then he will be right there in the convo. He is also 3rd in the NFL in rushing TD's with 12. Only Gibbs and Taylor have more.

My personal rule, not that anybody cares , is that a QB ( it's a QB award imo) shouldn't win a 2nd MVP until he's a Super bowl champion. Lamar Jackson is the only 2 time MVP without a championship

So I don't think Allen should be in the conversation

I also will lean more into QBs that have won a championship when it comes to overall accolades. So if it's close, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to a super bowl champion

Again this is jmo obviously

But based on how it's voted on and the rules, if the bills win out, and Allen gets 40 tds for the 6th straight year. Its probably going to be impossible not to give it to him

You do realize plenty of guys won two MVPs before they won a Super Bowl? Lamar is currently the only guy to have won 2 because all of the other guys won one before they got their third MVP.

The actual rule in the NBA and NFL is nobody has ever won a 3rd MVP without winning a NBA championship or a Super Bowl. Not a real rule but how people vote on MVP’s for the most part.

So as far as that goes, Allen could still get a 2nd MVP before he wins a Super Bowl.

Just won’t be this year as I stated in an earlier post even if he played like he did yesterday the rest of the year,  because he has too many turnovers already unless all of the other guys go on turnover sprees.

Maye was the QB last year. Seems like coaching was the biggest difference.

Stafford is the leaders...35 passing TDs vs 22 from Josh.  Too much to overcome statistically.

But he could make it close, if he has a stellar outing in every one of the remaining four games

I believe MVP is announced before the playoffs, so anything he does in the playoffs won't matter.  Holding the AFCE will definitely help and, as good as I think he is, I think the voters will discount some of that based on competition.  Stafford is just unreal this year.  I think he takes it.

MVP voting is decided before the playoffs, but announced one day before the Super Bowl

I agree and understand with most of what's said here. Just for me personally, looking at the 10 QBs listed with multiple MVPs. The historical precedent created a pantheon that is truly all time... I also need to see who won their 2nd, and when. Because many won their 2nd and then won the Superbowl that same year. Brett favre in 95 & 96 as an example....If not, it was very much within a couple years. The larger point is, the longer & longer a QB goes without winning a championship, the precedent is going to be against him. It's why I believe like you said it's capped at 3.....

I'm extremely uncomfortable giving a QB his 2nd until he's a champion. It begins to feel like something forced.

Everyone sees the list of 10 qbs and knows something is obviously wrong. It's revisionist/absurd if it became a 3rd MVP last year with Lamar which was extremely close.

It never should have gotten to that point.

It's like Gary Payton in the 90s as an example having more MVPs than Jordan in the Jordan era. And as ridiculous as that is, at least Gary Payton got to an NBA finals....

This is why it's not just about the regular season. Historical precedent is always involved in these conversations

This sounds like I'm bashing Lamar, which I'm not trying to do. But the MVP discussion last year was bizarre

Whether ppl like it or not there's a correlation/ symbiotic relationship with MVPs and championships.

I've always believed that

If he outduels Mayes, beats Jalen and Mayes loses to B'more as well, I would say yes.

Allen has 34 TDs

According to the odds posted by QCity, it looks like a 4-man race at this point. Stafford, Maye, Love, and Allen.

Stats

Drake Maye (11-2)      3,731 total yards    25 total TDs   6 INTs

Josh Allen (9-4)         3,570 total yards   34 total TDs  10 INTs

Matt Stafford (10-3)   3,344 total yards   35 total TDs   9 INTs

Jordan Love (9-3-1)   3,195 total yards    22 total TDs   4 INTs

Maye has the most yards, but Stafford and Allen are considerably in front in the TD tally. But, I think there are a few things going against Josh right now. He will get knocked for interceptions (even though Stafford only has one fewer), he'll get dinged for having another MVP candidate in his division (with a better record, more yards and fewer INTs---despite the TD discrepancy)---especially if the Pats win the division. Also, they just may not want to give Josh back-to-back titles.

I have a hard time seeing Maye win it in just his second year (even though he is having a very nice year), but I guess there is nothing saying a young guy can't win it. But, yeah my odds are probably on Stafford at the moment too, for the above reasons. Though Josh should once again be at least firmly in the conversation.

And now that he already has one (was finally recognized by the league as he should be), it's less important to me if Josh wins again or not. Post-season/Super Bowl focused.

Stafford has only four interceptions.  A  35 TD to 4 INT ratio is pretty, pretty good.

He won't win it unless they somehow win the division and get the 1 or 2 seed, and if the rams somehow falter.

If I had a vote, I would personally have him 2nd now behind Stafford. (Even though Maye is comfortably in that spot)

I think he needs to finish strong to get much consideration.  The guys who have more yards passing than Josh are:  Dak Prescott, Drake Maye, Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff, Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones.  If I were voting, I would eliminate Prescott from consideration as the Cowboys are a long shot to even clinch a wild card berth. even though he is far and away the passing yardage leader.  It's hard to argue that Pat Mahomes should be the MVP for the same reason.  Daniel Jones probably gets knocked out of the competition because he's out with injury the rest of the year.  I would guess the favorites at the moment are probably Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford.  Sam Darnold might be a darkhorse.  Josh is no doubt hurt somewhat by the Bills' decision to focus on running the ball when possible.

How do you define MVP?

1. If it is the best player on the team with the the best record, the MVP would go to Maye

2. If it is the player with the most impressive numbers, then it is Matt Stafford.

3. If it is the most dominant player this season even if his team does not have success, then its Myles Garrett

4. If it is the best player in the NFL at the most important position who does the most with the least, then its Josh Allen

For me, I would be most inclined to pick Allen, however, I am not in the least upset if Matthew Stafford wins with his team being among the best in the NFL and his very impressive stat lines
