Exactly the reason for him to give it a shot! The were truly in between a rock and a hard place - the most hollow 8 and 5 team in recent memory.

Everyone is expecting an 8 and 9 season now irrespective of who is the QB. If Rivers wins one game it will be super impressive.

No way would you want Leonard to have his first career start at Seattle.

Equally you cannot put an ice cold, old Rivers on the field at Seattle.  It's dangerous.

Colts just became must watch football.

I assume this means he is going to start this week, otherwise what is the point of signing a 44 year old QB who retired 5 years ago?

More to the point, why would Rivers come back just to practice with the team for a few weeks and watch some of the worst QB play imaginable close up?

I can’t imagine this working out. NFL quarterbacks are elite athletes, you can’t be on the couch for 5 years and just throw the pads back on.

Do you think every player that has worked out for every day of their entire life just suddenly stops when the retire? I'm quite sure he has been staying at least in shape

Bringing back Rivers is the dumbest move I've seen in a while.  I do not see this being a Flacco type thing.

What would your move be in this situation?

No way he is coming back for PS money or whatever vet minimum is.  Wonder how the compensation will be worked out?

Theres 4 games left in the season, Rivers isnt in this for the money. This is one last shot to do something you did for 30+ years of your life.

Rivers coming off the couch at age 44 after being retired for 5 seasons and winning the SB would be incredibly ridiculous, crazy, and in some ways the perfect ending to this insanity of a season.

Of course I am obviously not rooting for this, I am just saying. It tracks.

True in one sense. Starting Leonard for the outside world at least is an automatic L. Rivers is more than likely going to look awful but it might give them a jolt.

Rivers I am sure can at the very least be a leader and mentor Leonard somewhat.

They absolutely do not to an NFL strength and conditioning regime. Of course they still work out, but it’s just like the rest of us. There’s no trainers, nutritionists, physios, etc that keep these guys in game shape.

Especially because Richardson can't play because he can't see. He has a fractured orbital bone in his eye area. He fractured it during a pre-game warm-up when an exercise band snapped. And now Riley Leonard has a PCL sprain and is week-to-week. They literally have no one to play QB.

Yes.

I was saying I’d take Rivers over a healthy Richardson.

Respectfully, how would you know that? I've seen 60 year olds that are in incredible shape. I find it very plausible that a former elite athlete has kept in damn good shape since retirement. He also essentially has endless assets compared to most of us. I'm sure he's eating well. Its not like hes going to be running a bunch of QB runs. His job is to hand the ball off and stand in the pocket. He's a HOF player and knows what to do. I think this will go better than people think

I think it was Jaxson Dart that said he worked out with Rivers recently and he could still sling it. The colts aren't stupid. If Rivers showed up and they thought the couldn't do it, he wouldnt have been offered a contract

Josh Johnson?  Teddy Bridgewater?  Any of those guys doing the insurance commercials. 😂

I assume Rypien gets the start, but you do need at least a backup.  Probably a quick hook, and probably with the potential to re-enter the game if Rivers looks unprepared.

None of Jones, Richardson, or Leonard are healthy so I'm not sure what else there is to do.
