Idk man.  If we have Bernard, Shaq and Dorian in the fold, I think we can snag a LB in rd 3.  There’s been a handful of solid LBs taken in rd 3.   I’d rather not wait til the 3rd rd for a WR or DE.

as it stand, we have Rousseau, Solomon, Jackson and Hoecht (who might kiss some time early).  If we resign Bosa or another legit pass rusher, then maybe we can wait on DE, but we’ll probably be in the same position again next year.  PS squad guys and defensive tackles playing snaps at DE.

Investing a first or 2nd into WR (via trade or draft) seems like a no brainer, no?

if your point is that LB is so important in McDs defense that it needs a stud to operate, I can dig it.  You have a better understanding of if that is the truth than I do, but I currently think a good pass rusher would help more significantly than an off ball LB.

Well said.

Another thing about Cam, I love his effort out there.  He’s at a physical disadvantage against everyone he draws, but he has the advantage in heart.  The kids gives it 💯 + every play

I don’t disagree that WR and DE are also a priority  and a high one. I think that’s why Taron Johnson gets kept unless there is a player they just can’t pass up on the board in the draft  or in free Agency.

The bad news is we won’t have the draft pick capital of the last two years. Now certainly Beane can manipulate that with trade downs and trading away players( Keon Coleman ) etc but as it stands right now they are not in a great spot to add too many impact guys through the draft.

If we cut the usual suspects for next year. Curtis Samuel, Taylor Rapp, Tyler Bass and so on and the cap increases like last year we should have somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 million under the cap which seems like a lot but comparably it’s not

I think Cam has played pretty well.... except for last night and the Buccs game.

But part of the reason the two slots got roasted last night was because the Bengals would not get Chase involved against Benford. 1 target, 0 completions on 16 coverage snaps. So they moved him into the slot where he had 6 catches all against Lewis, Johnson, linebackers or safeties. He did not catch a ball against a Bills outside corner all night.

Johnson has looked washed the last couple years. Whether it’s injury or age he is slow to react and be in position to make a play. I actually think Cam played as well as he could this year but he was brutal yesterday. Can and Jonson were battling for worst defender of the day. Cam missed couple huge tackles and also credit to the bengals but they targeted Cam in passing game

I already looked it up if we post June 1st him we will save 7.6 million but I think they keep him one more year because there is no replacement for him. I will be harping big time to replace the 2nd level of the defense next year.

This is part of the problem right now. We really really need a WR. We also need a slot CB. We also need a linebacker and maybe 2. We also may very well need an offensive lineman. It just feels like a lot of needs for a team that will be picking in the late 20's.

It looks like Strong had neck surgery. You can see the scar on front of his neck in one of the pictures.
Hopefully he had ADR done instead of a fusion.

Gesicki has given this team problem for his entire career for one reason or another.  They also had their hands full with jamarr chase lining up inside with some frequency.

TJ seems to be playing a bit slower this year, and i wonder if quad/groin injuries are a big part of that.

Apparently it is.  He's been dealing with those injuries since training camp.  He certainly seems to have lost a step this year and is not playing as aggressively.  I don't think running in the snow helped him yesterday as well.

Do we have any options to fix this?

Can Darnell Savage play nickel?

Anything outside the box we can do?

Or do we just have to hope they stop being an absolute explicit weakness on this Defense.

Linebackers looking much better.   Maybe we get back Bernard healthy and actually use him off ball.

Bishop and Benford are absolute studs.

Hairston shows promise and White/Poyer have stabilized and are solid.

DL, not great, but IF we can get back Bosa and Oliver come postseason… even at 80%, there’s hope this group elevates some when it matters.

Taron Johnson and Cam Lewis are being targeted and abused every game out there.  Without a doubt, the biggest weakness this Defense has.

Having a 5’ 11” slot cab line up against a 6’ 6” TE probably isn’t the wisest decision.  It’s not all on Taron, the assignments are doing him no favors.  Lewis on the other hand is just god awful and has no business being on an active NFL roster.

Taron saves 8 million with a post 6/1 cut next year. He should be it unless they feel like he can transition to the starting saftey next to Bishop.

Come on man. The guy is under 5’9.  He is not playing safety on an NFL team.  Or college for that matter.

Time to let him go.  And send Cam Lewis w him.  They can’t cover anyone in the NFL at this point.

I agree I think they should cut him and save the money but he is 5-11 192 lbs about the size of all the other safeties we have had over the last 2 years except bishop who is 6-2 207lbs. Out of all the times people have mentioned converting safties to corners he makes the most sense. Has played the well run over the year. Excelled in zone coverage and knowing where to be. And although seems on the downside of his career as a corner he is only 29 and could potentially give 2-3 years of quality Saftey play

poyer 6’ 190lbs

hyde 6’ 196 lbs

hamlin 6’ 201 lbs

rapp 6’ 208 lbs

savage 5-11 198 lbs

lewis 5-9 183 lbs

hancock 6’ 195 lbs

Just play Cam. That's the best option for this season. Yes he gets lost sometimes but unlike Taron he will mix in some splash plays and make a positive impact. Taron is toast, go Cam and/or base defense.

Bills have a lot of fat to cut this off season, hopefully after a SB win.

Agree but just gonna minimize him asking him to cover wr1 or te1 one on one from the slot.

Taron Johnson has had such an up and down career but this season it feels different. It's likely time to move on.

I don't think there's any real answer on the roster though.

I was thinking the same - Father Time has come calling.

but didn’t Beane just restructure him around the trade deadline? Did that add years to his deal?

He was trying…that’s how far we’ve lowered the bar for Cam Lewis 🤦🏻‍♂️
