One of the negative aspects of being in "must win" mode this early....more Josh Allen runs...

I don't mean the tush-push runs, or the scramble plays that come naturally during the game.....I'm talking about the QB sweeps and counters that usually lead to 3 to 5 yards, and 3 to 5 Defensive players taking big shots on Allen.

 

I know he's able to absorb a lot of these hits, and they don't really faze him, but it would be nice to be able to save those plays for the Playoffs.

 

This is why you don't lose games to sorry teams like the Falcons and Fins....they could be 10-2 and a lock to make the Playoffs....and putting their Franchise QB at risk could be saved until January instead of starting in late November.

10-2 and controlling our own destiny for the 1 seed is where we should be.

 

I think we’d be there if Oliver and Hoecht hadn’t gone down.

And a complete disaster at Atlanta and Miami.. that’s why Bills are in this situation. If Josh has to run more the rest of the way, so be it.

U say that now but in the WC game when he goes down due to XYZ too many hits to XYZ - yer gonna be thinking differently.....need Brady to step up and design some better plays......Pit was easy for him....same basic play after play after play.  Sure as hell hope they win with that.....what happens when we go to Foxboro?????

We needed the 1st game against the Patriots while it would have been nice to win the Falcon and Dolphin games if we could have just beaten the Patriots we would be in complete control.

Josh averages 6.5 runs per game. Only 2-3 are designed runs. Some are just QB sneaks on short yardage. It seems to make him more engaged in games. I actually think he needs to take off more when he’s had some chances outside the pocket. It’s part of his skill set. But 2-3 designed runs typically in red zone is ok with me.

I can live with 2-3 designed calls......sometimes they are monster runs......for him any ways.  All depends if the other team is spying.  Then those runs are worth dog poo!!

Why do we consider this "must win" mode? Pretty much that is how it goes in the NFL. They only play 17 games. They are all really important.

Good point. Being an AFC matchup it impacts the conference record tie breaker. The Philly game if they are to lose makes the least impact for playoffs. But yes they are all big. Miami game 2 certainly looks large now.

I really would love for him to incorporate some playaction quick slants off of a HB toss look

 

Hell more playaction in general could be beneficial. 

Also I would like to see Keon lined up in the slot more, especially in the redzone

That and...with bad weather around the bend we are going to have to use Cook a ton too. It's nice that Ray Davis finally showed a pulse because we need to make sure Cook isn't spent by the WC game or we are toast

He took what looked like a wicked hit by the sideline against the Steelers and I honestly thought he would be taken out with a concussion but on the replay it was clear Josh was doing some of his acting to try and get a flag. The aspect of his game I dislike is the play acting and flopping. He's got a real rep for it now and the guys on WGR were suggesting it might be why he's getting less calls. The boy who cried wolf and the refs are treating all the hits as acting now

Me too... but ff we win the SB this year we will be far from the worst.

 

We were the preseason favorite to win it all. And people will look at Josh as fully worthy of it, he is not Dilfer or Flacco. Cook is as good as they come too.

Agree with the first sentence, not the second.  Hoecht had a good game and was average prior to being here.   Oliver popped then vanished.

I’m too lazy to look up the precise stats on this, but I’m pretty sure Josh’s completion percentage is off the charts awesome when doing play action on 1st down…which the Bills rarely do 🤷…

Fair enough. I think they would have helped us in the close ones... A number 1 wideout would have helped too. Or some more creative 3rd and short, 4th and short plays. What do you think is the difference?
