I mean…he’s statistically a bit behind, Stafford is playing one of the harder schedules in the league this year while NE is playing one of the easiest in years, and I think an old dude winning it is just as compelling as a young dude personally.  This next part may not be fair but if it’s reasonably close statistically between the two stafford will get it based on it feeling like his career deserves one

It's more an issue of whether a player is considered "defenseless", i.e. a WR in the process of making a catch, a QB in the pocket looking downfield, a guy getting tagged on a peel back block toward teh LOS on a pick return, etc.

Ballcarriers with clear sightlines that have plenty of time to protect themselves are typically not going to get that call.

They execute. They do the little things that go into winning games. Hate that the Pats are having such a solid season. Going to be interesting to see how they do in the playoffs, where Vrabel teams normally flounder and see if they can do it again next year.

That's true 

 

That's why college has a targeting rule on runners and there is technically no targeting rule in the NFL 

 

Though crown of the helmet still might be illegal.. offensive players cannot use it

I've been feeling kind of meh all season because I don't feel the hate for KC. Ravens yes, but Patriots hate is special. Like Christmas snow.

I do. They could use the college rule for targeting.  It doesn't happen very often and makes a real difference in protecting the runner AND the tackler.  The key in college is that incidental contact (head lowered by runner) is not a penalty.  The head to head contact must be deliberate with the player lowering his head and launching at the other player.  The play on the KO return was a classic college targeting situation.

Sal explained the rule. If a flag is thrown the sky can toss that penalty out but if there’s no flag thrown, the sky can’t then throw a flag after the fact.

But I've seen that called regularly.  If he hit him with a shoulder, that's different.  If that's the rule, plaintiffs' lawyers will have lots of fun if intentional or reckless head-to-head contact is just fine.
