Because we obviously learned nothing from the von Miller deal

Agreed.  If Bosa gives us a team friendly deal because he loves the culture, great.  But particularly these one year deals are signed by the player so they can use it to get a bigger contract the next year.  That's the trap.  At this age, he's great as a one year rental but would not be great on a multi-year deal.  What they need to do is go out and find the NEXT Bosa...a player who is great and a free agent...but whose recent history means they sign for less and will work on a prove it deal.

Like many here, I really like what I see from Bosa.  He's talented and tenacious.  The issue becomes what you have to pay to resign him and potentially deal with the torch and pitchfork crew (me included) calling for your job because you overpaid or didn't get the value you hoped for.

Where did I say that ?

I can’t stand when people throw in hypothetical nonsense to bolster their arguments. The fact is the Bills did turn it over twice and they were losing the game up until Bosa demolished Rodgers. If you believe in momentum then that was the point of the game where it shifted to Buffalo’s end.

Dude you edited your post…..you clearly said Bosa saved our season…..not that serious tho.

Bills had an 84% chance of making the postseason coming into the Steelers game.

The entire $7.2M cap hit gets added into the new contract.

The Bills have options where to put that.

I do not believe this to be true. It is my understanding that the  7.2 remaining in prorated signing bonus for the next four seasons must remain over those years (2026-2030). The only thing that re-signing or extending him would do from a dead cap perspective would be to stop from the full amount from immediately accelerating and becoming due.

Thanks.  That does make sense.  does the same hold true if there was restructure money?

I think Bosa might have to spend the rest of his career on 1 year deals like Clowney. Teams aren't going to trust him to stay healthy enough to warrant anything more than that. Within that context yeah I'd bring him back on a 1 year deal since he costs $7.2M against the cap even if we don't bring him back. But if we bring him back we have to give him less snaps and save him for critical pass rush situations.

That is my understanding.

As you likely know, this is just a way to spread the number of future years, offering immediate relief from a cap perspective. Restructures or protracted bonuses are paid out in cash to the player immediately, though the debt is shared over future years. I do not believe these amounts can be altered.

For example looking at Josh Allen’s recent extension, you see he already carries a restructure proration, despite having just signed this deal in March. This is money already paid to Allen prior to this contract, but it is still on cap from his previous deal for $37 million over the next four years from money that was dead cap the previous deal, probably from when they restructured him in 2024.

So how does it effect Bosa? They can prevent the 7.2 from fully accelerating if they re-sign. The 1.8 for next years dead cap will remain (with the next three years 2027-2030 at 1.8 remaining too). That free’s up 5.4 million that would have been dead money in 2026.

Depending on how they structure a new deal, it’s possible they could actually save money by extending him next season.

1 year - 14 million dollars, with a 9 million dollar signing bonus and 5 mil in base salary. This would in theory save them money on the cap next year, although assuming they spread the bonus over the next 5 years like they did this past off season, his dead cap grows from 1.8 a year to 3.6 a year…and if it all accelerated in 2027 it’d be immediately 12.6 in dead money due. Irresponsible but a way they could look at pushing money down the road.

Thanks.

the thing with Bosa is getting him back for not much more than what would have been dead cap anyways.

More likely, they go back to the DE well in round 1.

This would not surprise me one bit. Last season their first five picks were on defensive players. They sixth pick was a TE; the next pick was another DB to make six of their first 7 picks defensive players.

The Bills definitely need wrs. They also (imo) need depth on the offensive line. I think that drafting wrs and OL would make Josh even more efficient and actually put less pressure on the defense. Will this happen? Sadly I doubt it.
