CFP - Who should make it

The regular season is over. Who is in and who is on the bubble?  There are 13 teams competing for the 11 slots that will go to power 4 conferences. The 12th slot with go to JMU, Navy, Tulane or N Texas depending on who is ranked the highest.  

 

Who is in?  
1. Ohio St - best wins - Texas, Michigan. Next game vs IU in the Big 10 Championship game.  Winner no. 1 seed

2. Indiana - best wins - Oregon (on the road)  Illinois

3. Georgia - best wins - Ole Miss. Tex, Tenn, - Loss - Bama.  Next game: SEC Championship vs Bama

4. Texas Tech - best wins  - BYU, Utah - Loss ASU (without their starting QB).  Next game - vs BYU in Big 12 championship game.

5. Texas A&M - best win - At ND - Loss at Texas

6. Mississippi - best win - at Oklahoma - Loss at Georgia

7. Oregon - Best Win - USC - Loss to Indiana at home

 

Likely in but not sure why but could still be forced out

8. Notre Dame - Best wins USC and Navy - Losses - At Miami and home vs Texas A&M - The loss at Miami should put them in the next category especially with mediocre good wins.

 

Who is still competing for a spot? (most of these teams are 10-2)
Alabama - Best Wins - At UGA, Vandy, Tenn. - Good loss - Oklahoma - Bad Loss - At FSU - Next game: SEC Champ vs GA - Win and they’re in (top 4?); loss they maybe out.
BYU - Best Win - UTAH - Loss vs Texas Tech - Next game vs Texas Tech in Big 12 championship.  Win and they’re are in; loss they are possibly out

Oklahoma - Best wins Bama, Michigan & Tenn. - Losses at HOME to Ole Miss and Texas - Probably in, but ….

Miami - Best Win - ND - Losses SMU & Louisville. If Duke wins ACC - Committee probably puts Miami in to represent the ACC.

Virginia - Best Win - Louisville - Losses NC State & Wake.  Next Game - ACC championship vs Duke - Win and they’re in and lose and they’re out, likely kicking Miami to the curb

 

Other teams with an argument for a slot

Utah (10-2) Best Win - ASU - Losses to BYU & Texas Tech

Vandy (10-2) Best Win - Tenn - Losses to Bama & Texas

Texas (9-3) Best Win - Texas A&M - Losses Georgia, Ohio State - Bad Loss - Florida

 

If BYU, Bama & Virginia win their championships, the committee will have to decide between ND and Oklahoma for the last slot.  I’d choose Oklahoma because of better wins.

I think even if bama loses they will get in. The committee doesn’t seem to ding a conference championship loss the same way as a reg season loss and they already beat Georgia

OU beat 5 top 25 teams,had the hardest SOS in the SEC and 7th in the nation.   They definitely deserve the spot

OU’s biggest issue is that the committee has ND ahead of them.  I have no idea why.  As I wrote above, I’d choose OU over ND.  I’d also ND behind Miami and Miami won head to head and ND best wins are meh. If I were you, I’d be rooting hard for Texas Tech and GA.

You know,if we could upgrade our S&T program,something that plagues our Bills as well,  and teach our OL yo run block.... OU would be "back" so to speak.

1. IU -  only undefeated team 

2. UGA -  SEC champ who just demolished the team that beat them in Bama.  They also have more quality wins than OSU. 
3. OSU - lost to former No. 2 IU.  No shame and they only drop a couple of slots. 
4. Texas Tech -  Their only loss was when their starting QB sat out a game..

5-7 Miss, Oregon, Texas AM in some order.  
8.  Oklahoma

9. ND/Miami/Bama
10. ND/Miami/Bama

11. Tulane

12. JMU

 

Now the debate - Miami beat ND, but lost to two mediocre teams.  ND’s two losses are to TexAM and Miami, but the won 10 straight with a couple of decent wins.  Bama’ has the best wins of the 3 including UGA, and Vandy, but lost to FSU, got demolished in the SEC Championship and has 3 losses now.  I’d eliminate all 3 as none are worthy.  
 

Does head to head mean anything?   Does playing a hard schedule mean anything? Dies playing for a losing a Conference title game mean anything even if you get dominated?  IMHO ND should be out because they lost to Miami and played a nothing schedule.

Head-to-head should matter - if it's important that Bama beat UGA in Athens, it's just as important that Miami beat ND. 

 

IMO, ND is the odd man out. If Bama and BYU are both left out, one could make the argument that conference championships games are of no importance. And maybe they aren't given that 5-loss Duke won the ACC and won't make the dance. Toss in the fact that the players are right in the middle of academic finals as well and have to prep for a conference champ game.

I think the Committee will use Bama as a buffer to keep ND & Miami separated, which is absolutely insane. 
 

Very well could end up that Bama losing keeps Notre Dame in, while if they lost, Miami would be in.  
 

I hope not, but Heather Dinich keeps laying out that scenario.   Which is obviously insane, but this committee has not exactly been the bastion of sanity.  
 

Bama should be out, but then you destroy conference championships.

Unbalanced schedules and nonsense like five way tiebreakers putting a team like Duke in over the ACC’s best team. 
 

Texas A&M and OU played a JV SEC schedule are in with no questions asked, meanwhile schools like Florida played a gauntlet nobody would make it through. 
 

Perhaps we should just expand the CFP and do away with conference championships if this is what we get.

How the hell did OU play a JV schedule?  Starting the season it was rated 1st, it finished 8th.  They play in the SEC and finished 10-2, only losing to ranked teams,beat 5 teams that were ranked and still we gotta hear this bull****
