Just goes to show when you put a profit motive out there it often just comes back to $$$. At the same time though, I’m certain there are more than a few family members of addicts living and dead wishing the doc who got their family members hooked had gotten the blowed up treatment before they ever suggested/prescribed anything. controlled substance prescribing and dispensing is now tracked all over the country. If I saw someone on a controlled substance, I'd ask my nurse to pull the prescribing records from virginia and surrounding states. Many were doctor shopping. and were promptly told to leave. all prescribers should do this. It should be mandated. The would likely be much more effective in reducing OD's than bombing boats. And much cheaper.

And much cheaper. i had a conversation about just this earlier today. systems like istop and online prescribing have made it incredibly hard to overprescribe or doctor shop at this at this point. even if prescribers miss something, the pharmacist almost always catch it on the way in. on top of that, reduce the number of opioids to just acute treatment, and there's a reduction in misuse. i remember people going hospital to hospital at night and telling them they had a tooth ache. they would typically get an antibiotic and walk out with a 6 pack of vicodin. those days are over.
