St Francis recruits really well... So barring getting a top public School quarterback from section 6 or section 5 he will probably be there starting quarterback next year 

 

And have 2 years to play

 

Iona prep has a couple of division one football players including a running back committed to North Carolina 

 

I'm going to make the trek out downstate

Was recently back for a reunion weekend including the Bills opener.  Hit up Lucia's right next door now and Johnson's Landing, among others.  Good times.  Glad to see they're doing so well, all around not just in going to state.  Go Red Raiders!

How long have they been doing a state catholic championship? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it.

No Catholic schools cannot participate in the public school state championships 

 

It's because the Catholic School divisions recruit very well...

 

Even AA  public isn't really the same as the Monsignor Martin which is AA Catholic 

 

It's a higher level of football with a harder schedule... The Monsignor Martin teams play football teams from Pennsylvania and Ohio and the best Canadian high school football teams 

 

They're not just playing section 6 people 

 

So the winner of Monsignor Martin.. plays the winner of down States AAA Catholic League 

 

Even St Joe's which is like the third place team in the Monsignor Martin League this year.. would whack most AA public schools

It's been going on a while 

 

It's the largest Catholic football league in the country...

 

The downstate winner plays the Buffalo winner..  Rochester and Syracuse section have integrated their Catholic schools so they play public 

 

Downstate and buffalo have kept Catholic football traditions.. and play crazy schedules with out-of-state teams 

 

So the AAA Catholic winner downstate always plays the Monsignor Martin champion for the Catholic New York state championship

So in New York State high School football public School 

 

AA is the biggest ranking 

 

A would second biggest

 

The Catholic schools in New York( Western New York to New York City).. have A AA and AAA only in NYC

 

The Monsignor Martin League is AA Catholic... They take on the AAA New York City Catholic champion for the state Catholic championship 

 

AA public football is really good in New York... It's probably top to bottom a step down from the monsignor Martin League which is AA Catholic 

 

So St Francis is stepping up to play a bigger School in the NYS Catholic championship game.. but the Monsignor Martin League is the only thing in New York that could compete with those AAA Catholic schools 

 

Canisius has wonthe overall State title three times in the last 15 years

I played in Ohio. We were D1 there. Football in our area was good, we weren't that good lol. Wrestling was great and we did quite well. Track in Ohio isn't that strong but was good.

Iona Prep is a powerhouse. Stepinac has been recruiting my son to come to their school for football so we went to the Stepinac vs Iona Prep game and that Iona team looks like a college team 😳

I think it's a school or section choice, for example CBA-Syracuse plays in the public playoffs [NYSPHSAA] and play Buffalo Bennett today at 6 PM at Cicero North Syracuse [so basically a home game for CBA-Syracuse). I know McQuaid from Rochester has played and won NYSPHSAA titles in the past.  CBA Syracuse is actually ranked higher than St. Francis, but is not participating in the CHSAA playoffs.
