Then you’d be wrong because the offense scored 12 points and the Texans average 16.5 PPG

And even discounting that, if we're going to say the Bills actually did hold the Texans under 20 we can just ask easily say they actually scored 16

Groot isn't actually highly paid, though.  15th-highest this season and he will quickly slide down the list as other DEs sign new contracts.

Yes, which is why it came down to a final offensive possession at the end with the Bills having a chance to win.

All of our investments in draft picks and money in the DL and they're invisible unless you have an excel spreadsheet is my point.

I don't think they show he's really good, they show he's not a problem

 

He's probably worth his contract...he's not an issue is the overall point. Decent player on a decent deal

Yes, which is why it came down to a final offensive possession at the end with the Bills having a chance to win.

I'm mildly exasperated because you're arguing against yourself and don't realize it

 

The Bills D and O had similar days EXCEPT, prior to the final drive

 

-2 big turnovers on offense

-A big failed 4th down conversion that squandered one of the good offensive drives

 

This led to the Bills being in a one-score game where they needed a TD on their final drive to win it and unfortunately they couldn't come up with it.

 

Which is why people are dinging the offense, things looked ugly and unsustainable, and their net points squandered the production that they did have.

 

Meanwhile you're arguing that the defense was the problem, which is ????

like you, i do not think either side of the ball had a particularly good day

 

the difference (for me) is the offense going against arguably the best defense in the league, and the defense going against a bad offense w a backup QB

 

imo one of those units playing below average is noteworthy and the other is not

I think both units had/allowed fairly "normal" production relative to expectation, but the offense had 3 big drive-ending errors, two of which gave the Texans points, and Allen took a beating in the process.  Not good.

Also, the Dawkins false start was infuriating.

I know we have a lot of people on TSW that just follow the ball so if the QB isn't getting sacked then nothing was accomplished in their minds..........but Rousseau is a really good player.

He is really solid.. but there is a massive jump between the top 3 or 4 pure defensive ends ( not counting Edge rushing outside linebackers )

 

And the fifth to 10th ranked end... He's definitely in that second tier but that's a lot of money for a guy who has stretches of inconsistency 

 

The current run stuff win rate advanced metrics has him outside the top 10 edge despite PFF having him top five as a run stuffer right now 

 

His win rate is under 30% according to advanced metrics .. just outside the top 10.. yes he would look better with Ed on the line

 

He's very good but has never taken that giant step to perennial pro bowler which would really help the bills

According to Over the Cap and Spotrac, his cap hit is just under 6,000,000 this year.

This places him 53rd among NFL DE's.

If you go with the higher number of cash outlay it puts him around 20th I think.
