I honestly can't say what coach I think is more at fault. I don't like what they have tried to turned Josh into (game manager).  It's  like a square peg in a round hole.  If they just want a game manager, they can pay a worse QB less money and use the savings to build a better team like the 49ers before overpaying Purdy.

Also, I think Allen is more likely to get injured taking hits in the pocket than he is scrambling for a first down.  They have coached the running out of him, but not given him open targets (be it lack of wr talent or poor play designs) so he holds the ball forever, taking big hits.

Sometimes he doesn't notice "what the defense gives him" but that goes back to the square peg/round hole comment.  The coaching staff wants to use their sports car only for driving 5 under the speed limit to the grocery store.

I also can't say if the poor drafting is all on Bean, his scouts, McDermott demanding process guys, or some combination of all the above.  You can't draft that poorly for that many years and stay relevant.  They also can't get excited that a player they drafted isn't an outright bust and overpay them for getting over that low bar.

BUT ... Joe Brady is still the OC.  He is failing this team in a major way, and I am not sure JA17 has enough magic in him to overcome Joe Brady.

Why is it you think this? What specifically is Joe Brady doing to harm the offense?

If you are going to make that claim, you should probably back it up with something.

I vote neither, and I vote for luck and Beane's offensive personnel strategy.  I think he drafts better than a lot of people say, but he made a very influential choice to go bargain bin shopping for the WR position.

That choice, more than anything else, is the primary issue with the offense.

Failing how? We scored the second most points this past weekend. Was it Brady's fault that Ty Johnson got tripped up by the turf monster or that Cook fumbled the ball inside the 15? If they hadn't we'd likely be at the top, what more do you really want from this team? Score 50 plus games every week? Sorry no OC has ever accomplished that and ever will.

McDermott is responsible for the run heavy offense and the emphasis on defense. I think he and Beane are in agreement about depth over stars, but McDermott is probably the one with a lower emphasis on WRs.

As for Brady, at least until very recently, the predictable running on first down and 2&7+ are on him. The WR passing game looks poorly designed, I lack the expertise to understand why, but other teams with mediocre receivers don't look so strained to get guys open. I don't get how an OC can be bad at creating plays when there are good OCs just running their best plays out in the open, on TV even. Steal those!

The biggest frustration is that McDermott just doesn't want to be the kind of offense that NE has with Maye or that he had with Daboll. So while Brady's offense scores a lot of points, he's best when facing defenses that are vulnerable to his style of runs and TEs in the middle. Another result is fewer drives and a smaller margin for error. Don't we all think they could score a lot more if they had one more tool at their disposal? Josh handing off the ball is just leaving money at the table.

On the upside, the last time they played NE, there were some nice plays to Palmer, Shakir (downfield) and even to Coleman, so maybe he has some and he just won't call them. He's calling play action now and I was surprised on a couple early downs Sunday, so there's hope and Kincaid made the passing game look a lot better in a game where they couldn't rely on Cook and Kromer to add 200 yards on their own.
