I don’t know man. He was terrible at the end of NE, he has been terrible at UNC (basically any time he hasn’t had Brady), he’s like 75, and his “girlfriend” who is with him for all the right reasons is a disaster.

I'm kind of indifferent on Daboll. I give him credit for how he was able to help mold Allen from the wild stallion into what he is today, but his play calling also drove me crazy at times too.

 

I don't think there's a chance he comes back though as I don't think he and McD saw eye to eye and they seemed to both be glad to get away from each other when Dabs left.

Fair but I think almost any OC could have shined with that talent and they did (Kiffin, Sark, the Maryland coach). Like you have to be brain dead not to light it up as a Bama OC. 
 

wasnt Tua also like the number 1 recruit? The best thing on Daboll’s resume is developing Allen. It’s pretty mid otherwise.

I think Allen had more to do with that than Daboll if we're being honest

Bama was a ground/pound with game manager QB and play defense school. That's how they won Saban's first few Nattys.

 

Until halftime of the UGA game when Daboll talked him into handing the reins to Daboll/Tua, and they opened it up a high powered passing game, and the rest is history.

 

None of the stuff Kiffin, Sark, etc did happens without Daboll pushing Saban into passing, and then pulling it off.

I’m not the biggest Daboll fan but that’s really unfair. Allen became a better player in the nfl than he was in the mountains west. He got the same OC for 4 years, which never happens. Allen wasn’t close to this player his first 2 years. 
 

Daboll took a raw talent and helped mold him into a MVP. He deserves credit for that. The rest of his resume is meh.

But how much could Daboll do with the WRs we have?  Also, one big criticism of Daboll was that he didn't run it enough.  If we can get him here as an sr. offensive guy for this year.

Allen very recently, like a week or two ago, talked about how Dabs would light him up when he started getting wild out there, so Josh acknowledges what Daboll did for him.

Someone from the media should ask him about Daboll.  McDermott’s response will be telling.   
 

He could say, “no, Joe Brady is our OC and I trust that he’ll get things figured out.”

 

Or he could say “I don’t really want to get into that right now” or “no I haven’t thought about that yet.”  
 

if he says something closer to the latter I think  there’s a chance Daboll returns.   Hopefully someone words their question intentionally

i think he will get another shot at being an OC and continue to do well at the least, maybe even cusp of great.

 

there are no really great oc's in the nfl right now. they're all HC's.
