I feel like I was right not to be overly concerned about the safety position when everyone else was panicking. Well I'll admit Rapp was much worse than I expected. I don't know if it was the injury or what but he went from being a decent player to an outright liability. My whole thing all along was I didn't need a superstar at the position, just no liabilities. Once Rapp was removed and we inserted a replacement level player in Poyer the whole machine clicked into place. Obviously big credit to Bishop as well who has elevated his game well beyond what I expected based on his early season play.

Rapp's play last year was the exception. He was much better than I expected last year. What he was this year is the rule for his NFL career.

It is crazy to me that a huge part of the problem is that people have no forking idea what their assignments are.

Like the biggest value Shaq and Poyer seem to have are getting guys lined up properly....

Bernard, Milano, Rapp, etc. have been here a decent amount of time and it's like the wheels fall off when they're on charge of setting up the defense this year.

It's really wild.

My take remains solid! I knew he would be back which is exactly why I never stopped following his wife on instagram! 😁. Really though he has done a serviceable  job and exceeded my expectations. I was most concerned about safety going into the season  but Cole has been great (since poyer started)  and poyer has done a nice job. Safety is far from teams biggest issue.

I think Cole Bishop benefits greatly from having Jordan Poyer with him.

Safety is a very cerebral position. It requires a high football IQ. Poyer has it and Bishop was drafted in part on his football IQ.

CB used to be just an athletic position but with the advent of pattern match D's, it now requires the ability to think on your feet.

Several years ago Beane said that the light hadn't yet come on for Elam so I think he was a bust because he lacks a football IQ.

Plus he liked to grab jerseys. The fact he washed out in Dallas that quick, with the state of their secondary, tells you all you need to know.

Question is - how does he play in the playoffs where you are matching against accomplished QBs

Well if you look at AFC picture there is not a better QB then Burrow. He also played against  Mahomes this year. We are talking Nix, Lawrence, Rodgers, Maye(arguably best of bunch), Stroud. I have faith!

Or maybe it was due to him playing hurt.  Eventually he gave up and went on IR and did whatever he should have done back in September.  But from the sound of it either way, he'd be out the rest of the year.
