I can’t believe he was able to play football again on that leg. What a heroic story and effort of determination after one of the most gruesome injuries in the sports history. Hats off to him 👏 #Warrior A truly incredible recovery and an amazing comeback story. Modern medicine gets a bad rap but I'm telling you man, theres something to it. I mean, which one did he even break? I can't even tell. 3 Quote

The pure grit he showed in coming back from this, and really, for nothing more than to prove to himself that he could. It’s remarkable and inspirational. He has to be a pretty special person to do what he has. It was terrifying watching him in action when he came back. Every time a defender was near him I felt sick. So relieved he finished that game and retired soon afterward. Its crazy how the inspiring can also be so nauseating at the same time. 3 Quote

I don't even like bringing it up, but when I saw that picture, part of me wondered if that still might be in his future. That leg looks completely nonviable, and he played in the NFL on it. Nothing short of extraordinary. 1 Quote
SirAndrew Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Kudos to his courage and drive, but I’ll never understand how he was even cleared to play on that leg. I guess it was his choice, but it’s crazy. Quote
Sojourner Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Always enjoyed watching Alex Smith play. Guy was the consummate professional who did nothing but what was best for the teams he played on. Never complained about the Kapernick or Mahomes leapfrogs, showed up and mentored the guys as best he could. 1 2 Quote
SoonerBillsFan Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I think when he gets older, amputation might need to considered if the pain gets too bad. I pray it stays manageable for him. Quote

The injury occurred during a sack, and it was compounded by a severe infection called necrotizing fasciitis. The surgeries were necessary to save his leg and life, and they included debridements to remove infected tissue and limb salvage procedures Following the initial surgery, Smith developed necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating bacteria. Smith spent months in the hospital and had to use a wheelchair, walker, and crutches before finally being able to walk again. Despite the severity of the injury and the long recovery process, Smith returned to the NFL in 2020 and even started a game for the Washington Football Team. inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2024 class last December. The honor comes three years after earning his spot in Utah's Hall of Fame. When NFL legend Alex Smith and his wife, Elizabeth, learned their daughter Sloane had brain cancer, they felt like their world was crashing down. “You think you have been through a lot, but when it's one of your kids, nothing prepares you for a moment like that,” the former NFL quarterback said. https://www.si.com/college/utah/football/alex-smith-and-wife-reveals-8-year-old-daughter-had-third-10-hour-brain-surgery I hate cancer it has no boundaries what so ever and the fact that a huge amount of profit is from chemicals that either help to promote or actually cause the disease is even worse to think about but then when the innocents of a Childs life is brought into the equation it makes it all that much worse . I've had 6+ people in the last 9 years that have dies from some type of cancer 1 directly from round up, it is a terrible thing to go through but as I said when it is a child the devastation you feel is much worse . I pray that Alex daughter can over come that terrible disease and have a long life to love on her Mom & Dad !! 🙏 Quote
