Draconator Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 I'm thinking this years Stanley Cup winner is going to come from the Atlantic Division. 5 teams are in the playoffs. It's the strongest division in hockey. 1 Quote
ChevyVanMiller Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Columbus steamrolls Montreal 5-2. Sabres inch closer to locking up the top seed in the Atlantic. 3 Quote
Process Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Dallas also locked up 2nd place today. They'll have nothing to play for when they come to Buffalo. 6 Quote
Mike in Horseheads Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) TBN-- At one point in the drought, the Sabres went 458 consecutive games and more than 5½ years without having more wins than losses in a season (combining regulation defeats with those in overtime/shootout). They were 2-1-0 on Jan. 25, 2013, early in the lockout season, and weren't on the good side again until they were 2-1-0 on Oct. 8, 2018. This is a great article about the drought and some of the crazy stuff that happened: https://buffalonews.com/sports/column/article_75234929-4a90-48a1-9940-dff2bd512117.html Edited April 12 by Mike in Horseheads 1 1 Quote

Im happy for all of the season ticket holders who stuck it out during the drought years and now will finally get to enjoy some payoff! I have some friends who have season tickets and were able to buy some extra playoff tickets and I know they have me accounted for at least one game. Just waiting to see what one. I'm also gonna try to see if there's anything available tomorrow when they go live to the public but I know that's going to be slim pickings 1 Quote

Process Posted April 13 Posted April 13 What a ridiculous system. The penguins have less wins than NJ and ELEVEN more points. 1 Quote
Gregg Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Now that my Isles are officially eliminated, I will be on the Sabres bandwagon even though I am not a Sabres fan. But being a Bills fan I really want the Sabres to Cup. WNY deserves a championship and this Sabres team is talented enough to win one. Good luck to the Buffalo Sabres and enjoy playoff hockey Sabres fans. 4 1 Quote
eball Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Interesting scenario tonight. Pretty sure a Sabres’ RW clinches the Atlantic because we will be 2 pts up on Montreal with one game left, and 4 pts up on Tampa with the RW tiebreaker over both teams. If the Flyers beat the Canes they clinch the final playoff spot and have nothing to play for tomorrow against the Habs. If they lose, however, then they will be motivated against Montreal because the Caps and Jackets don’t play until Tuesday night. Only chance for Sabres to get 1st in EC is for Canes to lose their last two (in regulation) while we win ours. Quote

I wouldn't count on the Islanders who have been a dumpster fire these past two weeks helping the Sabres out. Quote

Neither team was expected to be a playoff team, but the Pens have made it, and the Flyers are almost in as well. I agree with you about Ruff and not just making the playoffs, but the Sabres have also turned into one of the best teams in the league. 1 Quote

If they did, they would tie us in regulation wins and have more overall wins. I don’t think there is any clinching just by beating the Hawks. Either way it would be good to see them win the East as it would mean home ice if they advance to the next round. I don’t see a huge gap between, TB, Mon, Bos so I’m not sure the toughness of round 1 changes. Only who has home ice. In general the playoff format is stuuuuuuuuuuuuupid. Which team is pretty much guaranteed the “easiest” first round matchup? Car, Buf, TB, Mon? Nope. Pittsburgh or whichever team they play. Don’t get me wrong, I think all 8 are good teams, but the two “worst” of the 8 will face off in round 1. That’s dumb. Quote
