They can't just run it back and I'm tired of waiting for another WS. It's been 40 freaking years. One of my coolest memories of Nimmo is actually seeing him play in the minors. When he was coming up with the B-Mets, I saw him against the AA affiliate here in Richmond. He and Conforto both were patrolling the outfield for Binghamton at the time and it was awesome to see them eventually ascend to the majors. Nimmo is two years younger than Semien but I worry about Nimmo breaking down. Plantar fasciitis is no bueno for an outfielder's wheels. Semien had a down offensive year, due in part to the broken foot he sustained from fouling off a ball. He's had some Jeff Kent-like years at the plate but he may not be an offensive threat anymore. Time will tell. He just won a Gold Glove though so the defense will play. I like pairing him with Lindor up the middle. Also, Semien's contract is two years shorter than Nimmo's which will give the Mets better flexibility when trying to build the roster. Too many big money, long term contracts strangle your options and ability to reshape. I wish Nimmo nothing but the best in Texas. Lastly, I saw the Semien presser on mlb.com and he seems like a complete class act. He's excited to play in NYC. I hope he gives them what they need. Regardless, Stearns still has a lot of heavy lifting to do this winter. @Another Fan @Gugny As soon as I heard about this my first thought was OK, what's next. On the surface it was a head scratcher. Not so much because it's a bad swap - there was a tradeoff wrt to age/contract as well as offense/defense - just that it feels like a precursor to other moves. They created a hole in left and the obvious front runners are Bellinger and Tucker. They valued defense over offense but added to a crowded infield logjam. The fact that they chose defense over offense makes me think Vientos may be the odd man out. It also feels likely they'll try to package some of the youngsters for Skubal. As for Nimmo, I'm sad to see him go. Solid but unspectacular player and an easy guy to root for. I'll miss his sprints to first on walks. 1
ExWNYer Posted December 2 Posted December 2 (edited) @SinceThe70s @Gugny @Another Fan Mets get their first free agent in the fold...RP Devin Williams. 3 years, $45 million (over $50 million with deferred incentives). I guess this means Diaz is on his way out? Would've loved a Williams & Diaz combo for the late inning high leverage situations. https://www.mlb.com/news/devin-williams-mets-free-agent-contract https://nypost.com/2025/12/01/sports/mets-signing-devin-williams-to-three-year-deal-in-mlb-free-agency/ Edited December 2 by ExWNYer 1

It'll be a great signing if they bring Diaz back. It's a shame that Helsley was a complete bust as a Met - I expect both he and Devin Williams will have bounce back seasons. 1 1

I don't know how the Mets couldn't or wouldn't beat that unless Diaz feels he's got a better shot at a World Series ring with LA. This is one case where I can't wish him the best (unlike Nimmo). I hope he implodes and completely sh!ts the bed with them. https://www.mlb.com/news/edwin-diaz-dodgers-contract Also, Schwarber back to the Phillthies on a 5-year, $150M deal. That's an overpay for a 35 year old DH only player but I get why they did it. https://nypost.com/2025/12/09/sports/kyle-schwarber-re-signs-with-phillies-for-150-as-mets-turn-to-pete-alonso/ 2

Between him and Harper, they’re getting what they deserve. I’m going to reserve judgment re: Diaz until we (hopefully) hear all sides. But that news SERIOUSLY pissed me off. I just don’t know who to be pissed at yet. But I am not a happy camper. 1 1

I mean look I have zero athletic experience at even the college level but it still pisses me off when players like this go to rivals for maybe a slightly better deal. Hell I’m not even a Giants fan and disliked Barkley after he became an Eagle. 1

I'm also very disappointed to see him go both from a baseball standpoint (he and Williams could've been lockdown) and also it's the end of an era. I'm going to miss the trumpets and I'm gonna ralph if I hear them in LA. I wonder if Stearns knew the writing was on the wall and that's why he got Williams signed so quickly.

I feel like this is one of two things: 1. Diaz was willing to take less money for his best shot at a ring. 2. Stearns knows something about Diaz (health/longevity related) that made it easier for him to not overpay. I will say that I trust Stearns and we all know Cohen has no problem opening the checkbook. Either way … we need a closer. 1

What I've heard is that the Mets offered a similar deal...3 years, $66M "with wiggle room to go higher". Sounds like Diaz wanted LA. If so, good riddance. I hope the first time he blows a save at Citi-Field they troll his fragile @ss with the trumpets. Also heard the Mets are interested in Trevor McGill from Milwaukee. I hope that's true. He's nasty. If not him then maybe Suarez from the Padres but Williams can't be the only high leverage arm out of the pen. I do hope that Pete comes back. We'll see. He doesn't live far from Orlando and drove the 90 miles to meet with teams in person. The Orioles and Bosox have been linked to him. Regardless of what happens there, still a TON to do this offseason. Let's go, Stearns...we're getting antsy. LFGM!!! 2

I feel like so far I’m not sure what direction Stearns and Cohen are going. Could be the right one for all we know just seems like they’re not being transparent or something

Nothing tangible or rumored, just my gut feeling.

His modus operandi is to let things drag out as long as possible which means there might not be a good backup plan OR we end up overpaying. 1
ExWNYer Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) @SinceThe70s @Gugny @Another Fan Decided to put on WFAN to hear what these losers are saying. Evan Roberts went on a tirade about them letting Diaz go despite the fact that Tiki Barber told him that Diaz chose the Dodgers over the Mets because the money was the same...but Roberts doesn't care about that. He hates Cohen right now, he hates Stearns right now, & he hates Diaz right now. Diaz is a good closer but let's not pretend he didn't have his issues over the years with the Mets. It's not like they let Mariano Rivera walk. The more I hear Roberts over the years, the more I can't stand him. He's a whiny POS, IMO. And he never misses a chance to take a shot at the Bills and McDermott. An envious, dopey NJ Jest fan. The only dumber, whinier POS on that station is the retired Joe Benigno who shows up for a weekly Monday appearance to talk Mets & NJ Jest. Hey Evan, he's gone. You and the horrendously mustachioed Benigno need to STFU and move on. Another thing that Roberts conveniently forgets is that the Mets signed Diaz to a 5-year, $102M contract which Diaz decided to opt out of so he could go grab a bigger bag elsewhere. Joe Benigno makes me laugh But that station has gone severely down hill over the years. Yeah Evan used to be more a sports guy now he’s changed to try and give it a Barstool feel. plus that vermin Craig Carton is rehired for the old Mike and the Mad Dog slot. Its easily worse than ESPN overall

Its easily worse than ESPN overall I was just going to say, how many freaking chances are they going to give scumbag Craig Carton? He was let go because of his incarceration, they took him back and then he bolted for FS1, then FS1 sh!tcanned him and WFAN welcomes him back with open arms. I never found him funny or entertaining, just a loud annoying douche. But I guess the NYC market thrives on loud, obnoxious talking heads, Just not my cup of tea. I will give you that Benigno can be funny just because he is the perfect caricature of a long-suffering NYC sports fan. He was a former caller to WFAN who ended up getting a gig. He's representative of a lot of the mouth breathers who call in to those shows.

I didn't get to listen to WFAN today, but agreed that Evan has become a whiny maggot. He has an encyclopedic memory but that's his only redeeming quality. I think his downfall started when they paired him with Carton and to @Another Fan's point the drive time slot became very Barstoolish. Back in the Mike and the Mad Dog days I could tune in and hear actual sports talk and opinions. Nowadays it's just a lot of faux outrage over who said or who did what. It starts in the morning with Gio - great impersonations but no other redeeming qualities. The only good thing about the return of Carton (I was glad when he left) is it bumps Sal Licata and Brandon Tierney out of the afternoon slot. Addition by subtraction.
