I get why Beane got frustrated with the call in radio hosts that do nothing more than criticize the WR room yet don't look at the big picture. Last season we broke records when it came to points per game both from a team standpoint and NFL standpoint yet all people wanted to do is lament that our WR sucked. He also pointed out that many of the radio guys bashed Beane for drafting Allen instead of Rosen which in retrospect was the right call. The one thing I will say is in all the years he's been here the team has never bottomed out or looked like it couldn't win a game or two despite all the injuries we've had. Is it due to strong roster building aka not having to rely on super stars to pace you? Look no further than to the Jets who's passing offense is in shambles in part because Garret Wilson is hurt and they have nobody behind him that can step up and replace him. Yes, our offense been questionable since the Palmer injury but the plays have been available but for whatever reason Josh not been able to make them. But the cops shouldn't be arresting people for .32 1 Quote

True story I’m guessing he was your Designated Drunk Driver? I met a kid who held that self-appointed title. He was in rehab at the time. He said “I had no idea why it’s so hard for them to drive drunk.” Practice, practice, practice! Quote
BillsVet Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 1 hour ago, Bill from NYC said: I agree with and appreciate your post, but I think that McDermott is at least as guilty as Beane in neglecting the WR position. McDermott has at the very least an equal say in the draft, and I think more than equal. Also, the paltry numbers our receivers produce is with an MVP QB. Could you only begin to imagine what ther numbers would look like with average or below average QBs? Posters on this board were complaining about the lack of talent at the wr position for a long time, yet the obvious was lost on McDermott. The primary focus of Bills management should be to provide Josh with weapons and more talent and depth at OL. Will McDermott do this? I sure hope so but there is no reason to expect that he will. We are very lucky that Josh signed that extension. I'm sure that he is more frustrated than we are. The last 2 off-seasons illustrate that both McD and Beane have a different concept of offense than essentially the entire NFL. It is what it is. They have a really good OL. They have an elite QB. They even have a really good RB1. They've completely failed developing the WR position, resist anyone's highlighting that it's an issue, and blame gets shifted elsewhere like onto the QB or the OC when losses mount. 1 season should be enough in the NFL to admit something doesn't work and that should have been 2024. But they ran it back on offense with "Everybody eats" and neither McD nor Beane seem willing to recognize it. In fact, McD has gone right back to blaming everyone besides himself just like previous seasons with other OC's and Josh. That's not a guy who's taking a holistic look at offense and open to changing. 2 Quote

I really dislike the person, but as a player I can recognize he's really talented. His play this year is even more impressive when you consider his age and the major injury he's coming off of. I do, however, hope he steps on a whole bag of Legos today. 1 1 Quote

WR salaries are inflated, and most of the guys that hit the market aren't worth their cost. Like it or not, they decided they could build an offense around multiple guys, an OL and RB instead of investing heavily in a single player. It was successful last season and not as much so this season for some reason. When you have a QB on a rookie contract playing at an elite level like Maye, you have money to do lots of other things. Billsfanatic8989 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Diggs has been impressive since he is doing this with such a young QB. I thought he would have flamed out there by now. Quote

mjt328 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 20 hours ago, Low Positive said: This is actually a deeper discussion. Beane is very wedded to the concept of "value." You see it in where he devotes money and draft resources. Elite WRs cost almost as much as QBs, but they only touch the ball 5-7 times a game. And any WR catch carries, by definition, an opportunity cost for the production of the other skill position players on the team. So, they thought you could spread that money, and therefore the opportunities, around to a bunch of good but not great players. Their thought was that the production of a bunch of 500-yard guys is equal to the production of one 1,400-yard guy (Diggs) and one 700-yard guy (Davis). This is true, until someone needs to make a single play to win a game. Then, Shakir + Kincaid + Moore + Coleman do not equal one Justin Jefferson or even one Tee Higgins. Value shouldn't be equated to how often a guy touches the ball. It should be based on: - How much they impact games - How easy it is to find an equal or lesser replacement Beane has undervalued how much a #1 WR impacts the game. Even though he wasn't getting big stats, Amari Cooper's presence was clearly a factor last season. And we are sorely missing him this year. Beane has also overvalued how easy it would be to get an equal or lesser replacement for Diggs. He keeps spending contracts and using draft picks on guys who are no better than #3 receivers in the NFL (Gabe Davis, Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Elijah Moore, Josh Palmer, Keon Coleman, etc.). Combine all that cap space and picks, and he could easily afford an elite #1 guy. Then he could use Day 3 picks for cheap depth. Quote

The GM never replaced him with quality wideouts, and the OC may not be very good at scheming up passing routes. The same stuff we have all discussed ad nauseam here. That shouldnt make Stefon Diggs some sort of anti-hero. He's doing the same act he did here and in Minnesota. It wont run its course there because if they can get someone like AJ Brown in trade or George Pickens in free agency Diggs will be out of there faster than you can say immature jerk. Quote
