I wonder if Buffalo trades Davis if they sign Hopkins. Something to watch.

I don’t see that happening management loves Gabe Davis says nothing but glowing things about him constantly and he doesn’t have a huge cap hit this year. Not to mention the fact that he’s playing in a contract year so he’s going to ball out.

If $10 million plus incentives is the number, just get it done. Make it $12 million. A lot of detractors to the idea have said no team has the ability to pay two high-end WRs, but $10-$12 million is actually a fair rate for a #2. If anything that is a discount given where the market has gone.

I would go along with that, incentive laden (SB).  If we did do that i would consider trading away Gabe Davis, his post season exploits are legendary and we should get something attractive for him.

I'd say that's about a 5% chance, and that may be too high. Davis would likely move to WR3. With Hopkins in the #2, Gabe could be even more productive than he was in 2021.

WGR hasn't been the same since Chuck Dickerson. Now that was good radio

you mention drought era moments where the Bills were rightfully criticized and yeah WGR was better back then than they are now but ever since the Pegulas bought the team they've been a mouthpiece

So your argument is that WGR was good when the Bills were bad because they criticized them then but now they don’t?

Were you listening after 13 seconds? How about after the AFC Championship game when they criticized McDermott for playing scared? Or ripping apart their play after the Bengals loss? Or criticizing the offense in the second half of the year?

Saying WGR isn’t critical of the Bills nowadays is laughable.

Once again, if he's so great in the playoffs.....why are we trading him away?  If Diggs, Hopkins and Kincaid are all on the field in the AFC Championship and so is Gabe Davis.....Gabe could have a massive game

What's the point? Gabe has a low $ hit for this season and is a high end WR3 Deep threat.

it's a contract year and he will be motivated to have his best possible season

He is also a solid blocker

Keeping Gabe would mean we don’t have a prolonged drop off should something happen to Diggs or DHop that lingers. Some of the new guys might be great, but I don’t want to NEED them to step up. There’s a lot at stake. If we don’t get DHop, as I’ve come to expect, then we just roll with what we’ve got and hope for the best.

With Hopkins...I am more concerned about him signing with one of our top competitors, especially KC, than I am worried about missing out on him.

Buffalo already has an elite WR in Diggs and has restocked the WR room, while still having a very good (albeit underused) TE in Knox and now adding Kincaid to the mix.  Not to mention, a couple of RB's who are very good at catching passes as well.  So if Buffalo adds Hopkins, yes we instantly get better still, but not by the same margin KC would if they added Hopkins.

KC is already the reigning SB champs and did so with JuJu being their top WR last year who isn't nearly the player Hopkins is.  Hopkins would just have a bigger role in KC and they just need him more than we do.

I want Hopkins personally, but in terms of our own team, I don't fear not getting him either as I think we have a pretty good upgraded group of weapons for Allen, a new OL, and potentially a better RB attack this year both running and receiving out of the backfield.   BUT...Hopkins is still a top 10 WR in the league and would not be thrilled to see him land on a top AFC contender either.

So for me, the value in signing Hopkins is 2 fold...bolster our own offense while preventing a top threat to our pursuit of a SB birth from upgrading themselves with him.

That is how I see it:

Diggs - elite WR1
Hopkins - elite WR1
Davis - OK WR2, high end WR3

Harty - Big ? if he can stay healthy.  Explosive player. If healthy, quality WR4

Sherfield - WR3 for Miami last season, very good blocker.  STer too
Shorter - Strong, work ethic. Camp will tell.  STer as well.
Shakir - Best case is Slot #2 behind Kincaid as of now

$10M is Marquez Valdes-Scantling money........who is basically the closest comp to what Gabe Davis is and was the past couple seasons in terms of play style and production(though MVS is much faster).

If they try to trade Gabe, it won't be now. It would be next year if indeed it happens.

I posted this in another thread with a longer explanation… but if Hopkins signs, there is absolutely no need for Gabe and we can get a premium pick for him NOW.

We will run heavy 2TE sets this year, correct? If so, Hopkins and Diggs go on the outside, with Harty and Shakir competing in the slot (and Kincaid). That leaves Shorter and Sherfield as deep ball specialists… kinda like Gabe, but they also are great at Special Teams. You don’t keep 7WR in a 2TE system when you can get a premium asset for one who will see only a few snaps per game.

I see this said quite often by some. That because a player is in a contract year their performance will improve to a great extent due to that particular reason.

I keep mentioning this because ppl such as yourself keeping mentioning Gabe as a #3...

1. Gabe doesn't play the slot, hardly ever.

2. Putting our 3 best Wrs on the field, includes Gabe.  But then 2 things happen-- likely Kincaid/Knox to the bench and Diggs or Dhop in the slot.

3. Gabe becomes what you are really saying which is how we was used in 2020 and 2021...a backup, who now likely gets even less time because it's not Smoke and Manny keeping him off the field but Dhop.

I'm not a fan of option 2.  At which point you my as well get an asset back for Gabe, because there's zero chance he resigns and gets his snaps likely cut below 50%.  This is why posters suggested a Gabe trade above.

I'd also be floored if Dhop gets less money than OBJ...this is pure speculation right now.

You said it. It’s a contract year. He wants targets. Trading Davis wouldn’t be about the Bills it’s more about Davis wanting a better opportunity elsewhere. If they sign Hopkins.

I’d rather invest whatever cash is needed for Hopkins in a swing tackle/Brown upgrade

Exactly!!!!!  Brandon Shell is a good backup competing with Quess, but that's it.

Problem is nobody is available and everyone is about this year only.  The scenario exists that we save the cap and do this next year...
