Connor and O’Cyrus at the minimum should help cut down on these type of things

IMO Morse is right there. He is sliding to the stacked backer. If he slides left there he is sliding to no one. It is true that he has leverage on that inside technique  but pass protection calls are more predicated by the alignment of potential blitzes or by number of hard men on the line of scrimmage. It is possible that the back was supposed to help Saffold, but Saffold is just terrible here, perhaps he thought he was getting help. Should Morse have maybe thrown his left hand out to help Saffold on the slide right? Maybe, but Bates clearly knows he is getting help here. Perhaps Morse got the call wrong, but that is the way I learned and teach the slide.

Makes sense. Saffold doesn't help his case here with a lazy looking rep on this play, for sure. It does, at least appear he thought he had help....but even if he had it he didn't look ready to even assist. Hopefully, the arrival of McGovern is a step up for the pass pro so Allen doesn't have that instant pressure right in his face all season, again.  Thank you for the insight as well.

While were flaming the OL any thoughts on pro football reference giving this years OL a better pressure percent than previous years?  or that it was top 5 for pressure%?  i hesitate with these type of stats that require some evaluation but found it striking.  Dont think they are top 5 but think they have been better than previous years.  I think we have some recency bias that causes us to perceive it different (2022 the OL fell off and 2021 the OL grew stronger).

Yes 10% totally lazy, it appears almost as if he completely missed the snap count or something, he practically still in his stance when the DT is already at his heels. Terrible.

He was bad. One thing about an OL, a bad apple does ruin the bunch. Brown also gets beat but it Saffold holds up his guy at all then Allen steps up and Brown washes his guy out.

We got the old version of Roger Saffold, who once upon a Time was a pretty good player

I’m just glad that the bills made the investment in Ocyrus that is an investment that is going to pay dividends quick
