Would've at least been cool to have something the players could've stood on or jumped up on to hype the crowd. I completely agree with you but it's just the nature of the modern NFL and the way things are trending. I lose a little bit more interest each passing year to be honest. 1 Quote

The new Highmark is putting fans closer to the players than ever before (certainly closer than the old place), including a party deck down below and tunnel access through the Field Club bar. I don’t believe getting the crowd “hyped” is going to be a problem at all. But to each his own… Quote

I’m old enough to remember when “we” all expected PSLs to price out the little guy. The stadium was going to be full of “wine and cheese.” ”Shockingly” the Bills and Legends understood the assignment. They set out to build a stadium to improve the fan experience in Buffalo not to alienate the fan base. This stadium will have the same people in it as the old one but they will be a little warmer, a little dryer and a lot less likely to pee in the sink. 1 1 3 2 Quote

I think the coolest thing about the new stadium is with the acoustics it should be way louder than the old one. Think Seattle level decibels. I do think there's a bit of a trade-off from the environment in certain aspects and it will probably lose some of that college atmosphere feel(i.e. players jumping into the stands to greet fans and Spencer Brown chugging down a fan's beer) but it's just part of the evolution Edited March 27 by BillsPride12 1 Quote
SoCal Deek Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Many of you talk like Rich Stadium was some sort of Wrigley Field or Fenway Park. It isn’t/wasn’t. While it provided a bunch of cool memories for the things you experienced there, it certainly wasn’t because of the romantic design. When first built Rich Stadium was conceived as a budget conscious, antiseptic, low frills mega-seat venue to get the Bills in line with the NFL merger’s requirements for seating capacity following a scandal over a WNY dome that put the franchise’s very existence into serious doubt. Over the decades they did what they could to bring the seating capacity down and lift the fan experience up but the stadium’s original design made it virtually impossible. The New Highmark Stadium will be a HUGE step up for players and fans alike. Be prepared to be REALLY impressed! Go Bills 5 4 Quote

Go Bills I've always thought, and pretty sure it's true, that one reason it was built half below ground level, was to save money. How many other NFL stadiums, current and former, were built that way? None that I can think of. Quote

It depends on many issues related to the site, ground water level, etc. For example SoFi was built below the surrounding grade because it sits directly under the LAX airport glide path. The FAA put significant restrictions on the height of the roof canopy. In areas like WNY it has a lot to do with the frost level. Foundations need to be below that level to avoid heaving during freeze and thaw. It’s that level that causes WNY homes to have basements. So is it costs? Somewhat but certainly not solely. It’s just one of many variables that figure into the decision. 2 1 2 Quote

That’s a separate argument but you were more than willing to make a big commitment to being there despite being states away. Edited March 28 by Kirby Jackson 1 Quote

That's No Moon Posted March 28 Posted March 28 I'm pretty sure I won't see the inside of the new stadium, at least not for a couple years, so I hope everyone enjoys it. I dont see myself paying what I'm pretty sure the prices will be to sit where I want to sit and sat previously every time I went for 35 years. To each their own, but I'm not excited to drive 600 miles to sit in the end zone when my house has a big TV and a fridge full of beer. That's why I went to multiple games with my elderly father and kids last year, kind of a last hurrah for that sort of thing. I'm not technically priced out because I could afford it, I just don't want to. The cost/benefit stops making sense at some point and, like I said, I'm pretty sure we've crossed that threshold for me. If I still lived there it would probably be different but I don't and I'm not going to again so it is what it is. Bills/Bengals in the snow will probably be my last one in person. I'm ok with that. I really have no reason to go back to WNY other than to go to Bills games. I don't have family there anymore, all my friends moved away. Every time I've gone back there for the last 25 years has been specifically for football except for one trip I took last summer on a whim. Maybe in a couple years when the newness wears off, or if my kid decides to go to UB in a couple years or something but this year is going to be bonkers expensive. 1 Quote
