Way to measure value in Free Agents??

Recommended Posts

Interesting article in the Athletic on value of free agents.  They looked at teams over the past 3 years, how much they spent and the return on value of those players.  They admitted there wasn't a super scientific way to measure value so they graded them using a Pro Football Reference called Approximate Value (AV).   The differences in amount of money spent across all teams varies wildly.

Basically the Jet's Fish, and Jax were all in the top six on $$ spent, but in the bottom 4 in value returned.

Bills were kind of in the middle of the pack in $$ spent and value returned.

I know Green Bay hasn't spent much on free agents, but their total is crazy low compared to rest of league.  Because their total spent was so low, it actually gave them the best return on value, but may be a bit skewed due to spending such a low amount of money.

Two teams that didn't spent too much, but got a good return and have been fairly good teams were Cowboys and 49ers

Interesting if you break it down. But I would have to see the whole list

Basically the more you spend in FA the less value you receive in return.

Be interested to see who got the most value but also spent the most and still remained on the top half of the value list

Ask and ye shall receive... Sometimes

Hard to fully decipher, but it does look like bigger FA spenders are down lower on the perceived value list
