Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"

In other words, it might have been better to forfeit the rest of the season & avoid further injury, if all of this was going to grind them into this state.

In many ways I sympathize, but in other ways I feel like they make a handsome wage. People spend a decent % of their check to attend those games, all the while dealing with some of the same stressors.

My head says I saw it happening and I can appreciate why.

My heart says I don’t care, you’re paid millions to turn up and play. And now you’re telling us the difference yesterday was the Bengals cared and the Bills didn’t.

Which just goes to show what a horrible thing emotions can be. I guess I’d appreciate the players more if they came out and gave their day’s salary back to the fans who went, to reimburse them for paying to watch that.

Bengals get a lot of mileage out of their grievance over the coin flip and such.
But the Bills should have been sitting home last week as the #1 seed (rather than fighting the pesky Fish) and then be facing the Jags at home.

Our reward for the traumatic Damar situation was vacating any chance at the #1 seed, which we were at the time.

We could have used that rest, but I've never heard anyone cite that nor heard any players ever complain

It was pretty easy to see.

I've gotta give 'em a pass on that. They're human beings.  Buffalo has been to hell & back over the past year.

My entire outlook on the season shifted once Damar lay breathless/lifeless on the field.

Don’t love the loss. Hate the way it happened.

I still have the same criticisms of this FO as I did 10 weeks ago.

If this is an excuse being used by Saffold for why they lost, then I am not buying it.

I saw effort from players like Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, Dawson Knox, Matt Milano, Kaiir Elam & Tremaine Edmunds yesterday.

There may have been some mental issues that the players were dealing with, but that's not why they lost.

I mean,  sure,  they've had a rough go of it this year,  but this is a divisional playoff game and at this time of the year,  everyone is tired and beat up...including the Bengals.  They were down three starting OL on the road against a higher playoff seed. They didn't pack it in and roll over.

How can you be exhausted?  You had a players day on Tuesday, a walkthrough on Wednesday and a family day on Saturday.  You only practiced on Thursday and Friday.  What the ***** do you have to be tired about?  Man this pisses me the ***** off.

Every ***** team has adversity they have to go through.  Cincinnati had a shorter off-season than you did.  You played 1 less game than the rest of the league.  Well, now you have 6 months to rest.  Rest up I guess.....

Ouch.

“Guys were exhausted during the week and our coaches did the best they could try to modify the week . . . but there was just uncharacteristic things that were kind of happening . . . I have to kind of put that into effect and not as an excuse just this team has been fighting for so long and fighting through all of this adversity you almost run out of gas at some point,” Saffold said

At least Beas didn't try to sugar coat anything.  He said, "They did a great job of preparing and they outplayed us really...just got beat."

Well, we know Roger was clearly out of gas based on his play yesterday.

I do believe there is a truth in there.  Everything was hard this year - basically from the moment that Hyde and Dane Jackson were injured during the second half of week 2 (let's not forget that was a very scary situation at the time) and then it was one unfortunate event after another.  I believe the Hamlin thing was likely the straw that finally broke the camel's back, but we were probably heading for a blowout in Cincy on MNF and yesterday's early exit regardless.  What you saw yesterday was a joyless, defeated, husk of a team that looked as if they were being forced to show up for another week of work, instead of a pumped, excited bunch of guys looking forward to a great opportunity.

ill say I think the Micah Hyde injury is a bit much to point at as an item on the list. Guys get hurt. He’s not Josh. You have to play through that.

I am curious if VM would’ve flipped the script some. Real pressure changes everything.

but I do generally agree that this team hit the floor instead of its ceiling the last month. Seasons have roller coasters and just a rough way for it to unfold from late November through yesterday. Blizzard-blizzard-national tragedy at your workplace is a really challenging run to keep at 110% every day. Not to excuse it but think that a let down game was almost destined.

I don't think he's saying they didn't give the best of what they had left or were somehow not trying.  He's saying that what we saw on the field was about the best they could summon.  Human beings do get to emotional and physical breaking points.  I don't put the entire loss or even most of it on this point, but it's understandable that it could have played a part.

Regardless, at the end of the day, the team wasn't good enough to hang with the Bengals in a home playoff game and that responsibility needs to be shared by everyone involved - from Beane through the equipment manager.  It's going to be a long painful offseason.  That's for sure.

We will once again have a hard time replacing Beasley.  Especially when we only draft and sign Defense.  God help Josh Allen because McBean sure is hell wont
