Can we talk preparation & McD - Let the Bills down vs. Cincy... Where's the accountability?

There's no way around it, the Bills were not ready yesterday.

January 2 they saw the Bengals walk down the field and score the first possession and yep moving the ball again the second one.

Yesterday the exact same thing, two possessions 14 points.

How are they not prepared and coached for that?  Four straight drives by Cincy and no resistance by Buffalo.

Even then somehow the Bills got a stop and then made it 14-7.

Again followed by a long drive and a fortuitous call and only 17-7, the ball with under 2 minutes and the 3rd quarter kickoff coming.

First & 10 at the Cincy 41 and three unforgettable plays and a missed opportunity.

Second half, they are first and goal and another three terrible play calls and an FG.

Cincy again follows with another long drive for a TD and the game is essentially over, however when they need a first down on 3rd and two, they call a low % long pass (and yes Gabe "big drop" Davis does it again).

So when does McD take responsibility or his feet put to the fire?

  • Billsfan1972 changed the title to Can we talk preparation & McD - Let the Bills down vs. Cincy... Where's the accountability?

We need a a big tweak to our Offesive scheme for 1 thing.

Out entire offense is mostly send our receivers to the sidelines opening up the middle for Allen scrambles or send our recievers long opening up the middle for Allen scambles. These where desinged bail outs that got shut down hard. Teams now have a blue print to stop this..
Add in our woeful Oline issues and we failed miserably against a top playoff team.  We all hoped for something different but in the end we died by what made us so dynamic early on... Dorsey had no answers so it will be a huge question this entrie offseason.

You could see against the Dolphins and even more so against the Bengals when Allens ability to use his legs is shut down were not that potent of an O, and that is what a lot of us were pointing out this year. Where was the short stuff the quick slant... Basically it was shelved so the middle of the field was open, or at least that how it seemed to me. Yeah occasionally we had a play in the middle of the field but the the heat maps will probably show that we keep the front/middle of the field clean.

On Defense... Bend don't break can be a good Defense if you have a playmakers making big plays consistently. We also had injuries to top playmakers and nobody really filled those roles. If you going to play bend don't break D your basically playing the odds that the opposing O will make a mistake and the Bills would capitalize..
Bend don't break D also works when the Bills offense take a 3 score lead into half time forcing the opposing teams to push harder where the D can take advantage.
When you face a solid playoff worthy team who doesn't make many mistakes and our D doesn't make game changing plays its a struggle

His defense looked like they had no answers to the Bengals offense “ small ball” approach yesterday. Quick throws short of the sticks and run the ball. Nothing fancy, and the Bills fundamentals were awful.

They saw the same thing less then 3 weeks ago and basically allowed a TD every time?  C'mon we know Josh did that vs. an inferior NE Pats last year, but this was at home & the playoffs.

Inexcusable.

It was a pathetic day for not only the coaching staff but also the front office.

An offensive line that has been neglected for years in front of the teams franchise QB was exposed. but that was really going on for the last two or three years.

The defensive line that the Bills have dumped so many high draft picks and free agent money into was man-handled by a patch work offensive line.

Honestly, after last seasons 13 second debacle and yesterday being totally outclassed by the Bengals and seeing how far away we truly are, changes should be made. Nobody from Beane on down should be safe.

We have a rare treasure in Josh Allen. We can’t afford to “let’s give them another year”.

During the Bengals first two drives where the D offered absolutely no resistance I was wondering why there was no timeout called to settle the players down and refocus them. After the game I realized the answer. There was no timeout because McD had no idea what to tell them. The coaches had no idea what to expect from the Bengals and they had go idea what to do to stop them.

Sean threw the special teams coach under the bus after 13 secs to save Frazier because Frazier does what he wants. I just hope Pegula does what Ralph Wilson would do,  insist that Sean replace Frazier and stick with being the head coach.  Allow a new DC to bring in a new aggressive minded scheme, Frazier has blown many playoff games and its time to try something different. His regular season stats are fake and get fully exposed against good QB's which you will be playing in the playoffs.

Yes the Bills on D too often hope for a break (i.e. a fumble, tipped ball or bad throw int) that wasn't going to happen vs. Cincy.

The Offense is a mess (that Allen usually disguises with his playmaking ability).

Who says Picket, Zach Wilson, Skylar Thompson, Brissett aren't great QB's?

Honestly something should have changed after 13 seconds.  Instead they ran it back and added Von Miller.  Not fixing the issue just trying to make it so they don't get into that issue again.  Sucks.

I'm of the belief the weather impacted us more than Cincinnati. The Bengals ran very straightforward plays while the Bills were trying to cut. Dorsey never took footing into account yesterday. We looked like we were running in sand.

Good thing they’re building a new dome stadium…..oh wait.

Sean was covering for Frazier,  this a win business and sometimes you need to make tough decisions to put yourself in better position to win. After all these playoff losses it is time for a new direction on defensive side of the ball. The fact is the Bills have invested big time on that side of the ball and the results have been the same.

But listen to some here and they'll tell you DVOA and how good the "D" is.

Sean is as much to blame (probably more then Frazier) for 13 seconds.  They called two time outs and still blew it.

McD get's a pass again?

Reid was Sean's mentor and he fired Sean because they could not get to the QB,  Sean needs to put the team first and replace Frazier.  13 secs should have never happened and we let that slide.  Yesterday our defence came out with zero adjustments from when we played the Bengals a few weeks ago,  they allowed them to go straight down the field two drives in a row. That took the crowd out of the game and it was essentially over. As for Sean getting a pass,  they would not fire Sean softer this season because all he has done. IMO

Of course not.  I'm asking why he always get's a pass?  I think he has hindered Josh too, more then helped him and he's the Bills most important asset.

I agree and Bills need to start giving him more weapons,  I also believe Allen should look to follow Brady's example of accepting less by reworking deal to allow Beane more cap space to sign another guard and #2 receiver.  He wins in the playoffs and he will make it up with endorsements .
