Could go that way or you could have some traumatized players wondering if they’re going to die when they get hit.  I’m not prepared to predict any reactions.  Human minds and motivations are complex.

I agree. That's why I hope they can rally and get back to "normal". This team and coaching staff are a strong bunch and think they'll rally when the time is right

Just saw a really good point  - if they announce immediately that the game is postponed, the emergency vehicles now have to deal with prohibitive traffic when seconds count.

0% chance this factored into the decision.  They wouldn't make that call until after the ambulance had left.  They would have a good head start on stadium traffic and likely a police escort.

We may have crossed paths.  Med school in Toledo, residency Ann Arbor and interviewed at Cinci.  Very good job with the explanations.

He went to MCO in the late 70s and 80s, we discussed it in the shoutbox last night.

I grew up in Sylvania.

I mentioned last night, and will say again, Ryan Clark and Scott Van Pelt were absolutely amazing… and should get some serious national recognition in how they handled this.

I've always really liked Ryan Clark. Tonight, his humanity, ability to connect and articulate was on full display. He is an amazing guy with his own health scare.

I'd be shocked if he isn't tapped to lead a football team very soon.

the ambulance remained for some time before leaving.

that said I don’t think the league stood any chance of making that call within minutes of him going down so I doubt that was a heavy consideration.

the bigger issue on the delay was simply that there is no reason to race public announcements. It sucked for viewers but sometimes that’s just life.

I think the thing that makes this so terrifying is that it’s a true freak accident with no preventable behavior like head injuries.  No Damar Hamlin Rule is coming to make it so a heart won’t stop. Just a memento mori.  Gather ye rosebuds.

Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone. This is why CPR training and having AEDs accessible is important

Yes.. And for those of you who are not trained in CPR and how to use a AED you should consider it. Classes are usually readily available

I’m almost positive no NFL team has ever had the amount of adversity that the Bills have had this year. All the injuries, the November storm, two games in Detroit in a week, Christmas storm, 3 nights in Chicago, and now Hamlin. I believe it’s unprecedented. If someone knows of a NFL team dealing with more in one season, please feel free to correct me.

I quickly put a list together of the last 12 months - obviously some more significant than others but simply the mental/physical toll

13 seconds

Tops shooting

Kim pegula health situation (have not seen or heard from her since medical emergency)

Dawson Knox brother death

Dane Jackson injury/ hospitalization

Hyde injury - out for season

Miami game in unprecedented heat situation

Snowvember/ unable to have practice/game moved to Detroit

Von miller injury - out for season

34 Blizzard deaths

Had to stay in Chicago Christmas Eve due to weather, travel ban

Damar Hamlin cardiac arrest on field, game cancelled

I learned CPR a long long time ago in college but I only partially remember. Thinking about going to get recertified.

Fortunately it’s also extremely rare on a football field. As mentioned on WGR probably one of the best places to be if it’s going to happen because of the medical staff access- there or a hospital. A terrible thing that no one wants to see occur and it almost never does.

Had a long night processing what happened. Still having difficulty.

I work in the medical field and have performed CPR too many times. I can’t imagine what those players, staff, media felt witnessing their friend,

and teammate down on the field. People who have never witnessed CPR. It was obviously traumatic by the players reactions.

Training staff/medical personnel were in a spotlight that nobody else would be in performing their job. The work they did is incredible and hopefully will enable Damar to come back from this.

I have no clue how this team can even play Sunday.  I hope the players, staff and organization can do what’s needed to care for themselves while caring for their teammate. Games don’t matter, Damars health does.

This team is woven into the fabric of this community like none other. The emotions i feel and those I’ve read and listened to is incredibly sad.  Prayers for this young man and his family and for those who are close to him.

Just weary man...it's been a tough 365 days in Buffalo. When does the avalanche stop?

That’s why IMO his family being there was probably for the better.  I can’t imagine sitting at home watching my son on tv like that not knowing what’s going on.  Just a horrible scene all around.  Definitely puts it all in perspective.  Thoughts are with the Hamlin family.
