And, of course, ss long as he had Brady, Belichick never had to concern himself with finding and developing a QB in an era where success is so QB dependent. I have no doubt he dismissed McDaniels' role in the relative success they had last year with Jones and believed it was entirely due to him and his head coaching abilities. The proof is in his establishment of a dual OC concept shared by two people completely incapable of the handling the responsiblity. Now he is absolutely incapable of engaging in the necessary self-reflection and humility necessary to realize that he has f****d the entire thing up. If it keeps going south, I'm sure others will be held accountable I fundamentally agree with you, but regarding "never had to concern himself with finding and developing....", I'd like to point out that two current starting QB in the league (Jacoby Brissett, and Jimmy Garappolo) were drafted by Belichick and developed in NE - which is kind of unprecedented actually as far as I know. Then there's the curious case of Matt Cassel, who never threw a pass in college, had a winning season that just missed the playoffs in NE, repeated in KC, then fell off the edge of the NFL earth. I won't disagree with you that there have been QBs (I wouldn't classify any of them as more than average talents who reached their ceilings) drafted and developed in NE that have started / are currently starting in the NFL. However, they were developed under McDaniels and during a period when the team had, arguably, the GOAT at QB. Not exactly the same context as needing to find and develop a QB for the team to be good or relevant again.
