Move White to safety

Bills should seriously consider moving Tre to safety when he returns. Right now Elam and Jackson are playing well and Benford will be back soon. The weakest link on the defense is Johnson/Hamlin opposite Poyer.

Rod Woodson did this and landed in the HOF after his knee surgery and this history indeed sways my thinking. Woodson probably makes the HOF as a CB regardless. Others have done it too - Aneas Williams was another.

Tre is a great corner but it does appear to be true that McD's system allows CBs of all skill levels to do well. Akin to an OL playing your best 5 somewhat agnostic of position, perhaps the Bills should do the same thing in the secondary with their best 4 players plus Taron Johnson at nickel.

My only hesitation for White to safety is that he has never been a great tackler in the open field.

Hyde may never play for the Bills again given his injury and only 1 more year on his contract. Moving White to safety now and letting the rookies play CB gives them a long term plan for years to come in the secondary.

Feel free to flame away, but I look forward to what others think.

Woodson is significantly bigger than White. He moved to safety at 31,after several injuries.

Let's see how White looks at corner,if healthy, he is the Bills top XB. Plus, there has already been talk of moving Benford.

White knows that corners can make more than safeties.

none of what you said here is accurate or backed up by anything. The insistence by a handful of people here to shift players away from their natural positions is borderline deranged.

Taron Johnson? Gotta move him to the boundary.

Edmunds? Try him as an edge rusher.

ALL-PRO corner Tre White? Obviously better as a safety.

Insane.

I'm not moving Tre to safety at this point. However, in fairness to Ethan it isn't the stupidest suggestion in the world. He could definitely do it at a high level and there were even those who thought he'd eventually end up at safety coming out. Maybe if in two years Hyde and Poyer have both gone, Elam is elite and Benford is a good established corner #2 then I'd consider moving Tre. We might then get to the point where you ask what is the best way to get our best 4 or 5 DBs on the field. Benford at safety is another option.

No sorry Gun but it is way to early to consider this as it pertains to White. As he ages maybe.

Benford may well be an effective tweener and if they want to try that fine.

At the point that I say I would be open to it White would be about 3 months short of 30. He plays corner this year, and next year, so long as he is still physically capable there is no doubt about that.

But beyond that as he ages you have to think about how you get your best DBs on the field together and in a situation where Elam and Benford both develop well I can see the argument for the younger legs on the outside and let Tre range in centre field. All I am saying is I would be open to it if the right circumstances arose a couple of years from now.

Completely agree.  It's not that far-fetched and was talked about when he was drafted.  We're about 3 years too early for the discussion but it could very well be a late-career move for Tre.

At least let him try to play corner again before you pile on the injury ended his career at corner story line

In McDermott's and Frazier's defense slot corners are ideal players to convert to safety (both poyer and Hyde) also see cam lewis in training camp

Moving an undersized corner is not ideal and when you add that he is one of the best in the league at corner moving him is a bad idea.

Move Gabe Davis to holder until his ankle heals.  Shakir played well last week and Davis has great hands for holding (or he did until this week).  Then we can cut Martin and sign Andy Isabella, Cole Beasley and OBJ.

Excellent. And just let Odell punt until he can run routes.
