Several counties along Florida's west coast have already issued mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, storm surge could reach as high as 10 feet along portions of Florida's west coast, though the entire western Florida coast is susceptible to some level of storm surge.

Storm surge is the rise of water levels caused directly by a storm and does not take into account rainfall or wave size, which can add additional feet on top of a storm's surge.

"In order to protect residents, we are issuing a mandatory evacuation order for Zone A, recommending a voluntary evacuation for Zone B and opening emergency shelters," Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise said.

15 MPH is tough to sail in?  Is this you Tibs?

BTW Tibs?  Good sailors go by knots not MPH.

I think they were sailing with the wind there trying to have the sails butterfly so the main sail and the gib are on opposite sides of boat. Not sure why that guy was standing by the main sail. So many people on that small boat. That's a strong wind though!

Hope Destantis does well and helps to provide the people of Florida through his leadership and connections with the courage, strength, and supplies the people need to ride this out.

Glad Biden and the federal government have already begun providing relief without any political interference.

DeSantis faces the true test of any Florida governor

FTA:

Through Monday, DeSantis held three briefings at the Emergency Operations Center, a regular venue for governors managing storm responses.

He praised the Biden administration after the president on Saturday declared a state of emergency for Florida, which allows FEMA to begin coordinating efforts ahead of the arrival of the storm. It was a rare compliment from a governor who has used Biden as a political heel on a range of partisan issues as he prepares for what could be a 2024 run for the White House.

“They stand by ready to help, so we appreciate that quick action,” DeSantis said.

So DeSantis shouldn’t praise the Biden administration when they very occasionally do the correct thing? The media is unbelievable with this crap.

Wing on wing is what sailors call it. 🙄

And it’s called a jib.

You sure you sail?

That’s not what that says.

Yes, it does.

anywho. . . . . . . . . .

Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar brought the hurricane up during an MSNBC interview this morning, and you’ll never guess how she managed to work it into the conversation. OK, you probably will, but watch her anyway:

“We just did something about climate change.”

By what, exactly? By passing a bill?

A bill that wasn’t even supposed to be about climate change?

The precise size and strength of Ian, as well as what path it ultimately will carve as it ambles up the Gulf of Mexico, remained uncertain on Monday evening. But this much is clear: The Tampa Bay region that lies in its crosshairs, with nearly 700 miles of shoreline and more than 3 million residents, is one of the most vulnerable places in the United States to severe flooding if a catastrophic hurricane were to score a direct hit.

Several years ago, a Boston firm that analyzes potential catastrophic damage found that the region could suffer $175 billion in damage from a storm the size of Hurricane Katrina. An earlier World Bank study called Tampa Bay — home to Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and a collection of other beach towns and low-lying communities — one of the 10 most at-risk metropolitan areas on the globe.

“The fact this could be larger than anything we’ve seen is very concerning,” said Libby Carnahan, a Florida Sea Grant agent and a founder of the Tampa Bay Climate Science Advisory Panel, formed in 2014 to help area leaders better understand the rising flood risks and find ways to become more resilient.

Just now, Chef Jim said:

It does not say that DeSantis should not praise the President when he does something worth praising which is what Boatdrinks comment said.

Boatdrinks was calling out the media for pointing out that DeSantis acknowledged the help of the feds. That's all.
