There is simply no excuse for that and I put the blame on the coaches who should have reminded everyone of the game situation and demanded three kneel downs.

Agree. Although a smart player may realize on his own and not score, that's not what they do anymore than knocking the ball down on a Hail Mary on the last play of a game instead of trying to catch it and risking a deflection. It's not in most player's thought process to not score and the coaches must coach it into them and tell them the situation.

I will say the line to make was the two.  If he is busting it to get that first,  he probably can't stop at the one.

I agree that the coaches are ultimately to blame for Chubb not going down before getting into the end zone.

 

But, Christ.  The defense let the Jets ... the JETS ... come back with less than two minutes on the clock.  That is absolutely inexcusable.

Sure, better awareness by Chubb would have been great, but he was adhering to a life long body of instinct as a running back; every fiber in his core says to get the ball over the goal line and score. Coaches simply have to take command in that situation to prevent that from happening.

Absolutely inexcusable indeed. Right on the heels of the initial inexcusable gaffe of not taking a knee to end the game. Browns deserved what happened to them.

The score was 30-17 when he scored with 1:58 left in the game. It'd possibly be a boneheaded play vs KC but not the Jets

If Chubb was never told to stay out of end zone then it completely on coaching staff. If he was told not to score and did it is completely on him. No player should not score unless told to by coach

Another potential nominee could have been the Cardinals' player in OT that almost dropped the ball before crossing the goal line

I totally disagree. He is going into score with about a minute left to make it a 14-point game. That wins the game. 
 

I don’t think it is fair to blame Chubb for the kicker missing a PAT, the defense folding on a long TD, the jets recovering an onsides kick, and the defense collapsing again.  When Chubb scored, the Browns had a 99% win probability.

I put the blame squarely on the coaches but Chubb can still realize that 100% is more than 99%.

then the jets might have gone for 2 on one of the TDs.

 

down 14 it’s a better decision to go for 2 generally..
