Oh god can we not with this?? It was ridiculous throughout the offseason, rehashing it on every miss is just insufferable

Stop it.

3 points is 3 points.  The sooner you stop pointing the finger at heat, injuries, Dorsey, Josh, etc., the quicker we can re-evaluate our holding game.

That miss doesn't happen last year. Bass is automatic at that distance.

Sorry it bothers you.

It was tipped at the line, wasn't the hold.

Could have sworn Bass talked to him right after the kick and wasn't happy with the hold.  Find link to "tipped" ball if you can.

They might have just discussed if the ball was touched.

It obviously was because the ball had zero rotation because of the blockers fingers.

The hold looked good to me. If you slow down the video to 0.25 in the youtube settings one of the fins players hands certainly look like it got up there at the same spot and time as the ball. Just slightly but enough to change the trajectory.

Chris Brown on the sideline heard the players say it was tipped.

From Joe B's article in The Athletic...

Quote

Play 4: 4th quarter, fourth-and-4, 14:12 remaining — After a stalled drive, the Bills wanted to salvage some points and sent the usually reliable field goal unit out to give the Bills a 20-14 lead. The attempt was partially tipped at the line of scrimmage, leading to a wobbly miss wide left.

The hold was perfect.

-- The Dolphins caught a break, which would prove monumental in the end, when Tyler Bass badly missed a 38-yard field goal attempt to keep the score 17-14.

The hold was absolutely horrible.

That kick was offline regardless...even before the tip it was going to miss based on how it was moving off his foot. It appears his foot placement was off as his follow through was to the left instead of straight.

My friend said Bass missed the kick and looked weird because the ball hit Martin's hand on the hold.  Can anyone else confirm or is there video evidence of this happening? I can't seem to find a replay of the miss online.  He said it was really inexcusable.

The hold looked pretty crappy to me...he had his palm on the tip of the ball. May have led to the lower trajectory/tip.

So you’re saying that the cause of the missed kick might’ve been the 38* offensive linemen that were injured and not a guy who is in his 10th** season of holding for kicks in the NFL? Interesting…….

Snap wasn't great either....he had to kind of reach up and away for it. Regardless even without the tip Bass was going to miss that kick based on the follow through of his foot to the left and the initial trajectory of the ball coming off his foot. But that could have been related to the extra time on the hold to get it down...that is one of the most timing based plays in all of sports...any little deviation can cause bad results.

I watch the snap of every kick.  There has been a number of snaps this year a little high.

I've seen a number into the holder's body.  Too far to the right if looking from behind.

I'm assigning no blame to any of the 3 (snapper/holder/kicker) on the miss, it seems they need to keep working on this.

The whole process just doesn't look as smooth as I have seen in the past.

It all looked a little off for sure...and Bass simply mishit the ball...his kicking foot was pointing left on the follow through instead of straight, that was a miss even without it being tipped.

Yep.  Most everything about it looked bad to me.  Suspect snap, suspect hold, suspect kick = badly missed (possibly tipped) FG.
