If a transformer on a pole near your home explodes, your neighborhood may be without power for several hours until it's fixed. Yea I had that happen and it sent a power surge that killed my cable modem first day I moved in. It made it look like it was daytime in the middle of the night. I'd be more worried about drastically dropping Lake Mead elevations and it's role on power production.
