Players want to be here and are rewarded accordingly for doing so. The Chiefs, perennial contenders at this point, had the equivalent of a Stefon Diggs trade and a Dion Dawkins non-report this season. That's a lot of money. Also, Brown isn't the picture of prime physical athlete...he has to work at staying in good enough shape to play football. It might be that they'd roll with some dudes we've not heard of and see how that goes (probalby not good) I'd say Brown sits out through most or all of camp and shows up for week 1....to collect his fat tag money. I would say that IF Brown has a really good year, KC would gladly pay him. Last year he was medicore and they weren't going to pay him top money to be mediocre again. KC has a ton of draft capital next year and would be prepared to address this in the draft after this season. I think it's probably mutually beneficial to both if he shows up and plays on the tag. I get where you are coming from, but all the reasons you say he should show up, are the reasons he shouldn’t. It takes ONE mis-step to injure his fat ass, now he’s not getting a contract. On the open market, sure. I doubt any team trades anything worthwhile with them looking at doling-out a (likely) 5-year $125M/year contract with half of it guaranteed. David Bakhtiari is 31 & makes $23 million, signing a 4 year contract extension in 2020. Trent Williams is 34 & also makes $23 million a year, signing a 6 year contract extension in 2021. So if Brown comes to market, he's going to get $25+ million anyway due to contract inflation + his young age alone. We would be losing it if that were the Bills...and the Chiefs management is actually well respected in the league The Chiefs are taking a hard line stance with a lot of these guys like Hill and Brown because they have already been to a few SB's and won one and they know their current window is shrinking because of Mahomes deal so they aren't going to hand out max contracts to guy they feel can be replaced and or sacrifice a few 'transition' type of seasons heading into the next window of Mahomes career. Bills are going to be a similar situation very soon and if they do win a SB this year you'll definitely see the true colors of a lot of players(and their agents specifically) in terms of wanting big pay days and new deals. I think that is a good take on the situation. I guess, because of the draft years, we are one year behind the Chiefs in terms of having to deal with contract situation due to the contract extension that each of the teams’ star quarterbacks signed. I agree with you that Poyer is likely a goner after this year, mainly due to the fact that they more than likely would’ve signed a contract at this point if the plan was to retain him. This is why it gets so frustrating hearing some podcast guys, like Buffalo Fanatics, just yell to pay people like there aren’t future ramifications. Another reason we’ve gotten deals done, where KC hasn’t, is because Diggs/Dawkins didn’t demand what Hill/Brown have demanded. A guy like Poyer, while doing all the right things, seems like a guy who could contract demand his way out of Buffalo after this year. And nobody should hate him or Beane for it.. sometimes it’s just business. Gabriel Davis, if he has the year many are predicting, could also become a new deal candidate next off-season.
