Pesci in casino might have been better than Goodfellas.  Deniro was at his best too.

A couple of my favorites, but maybe not technically the best performances ever:

 

Javier Bardem in no country for old men.

 

Philip Seymour Hoffman in before the devil knows you're dead

 

Steve Martin in the jerk

2. James Mason as Captain Nemo - 20k Leagues Under the Sea

3. Jamie Foxx as Ray - Ray

4. Robert Shaw as Quint - Jaws

5. James Dean as Jim Stark- Rebel without a Cause

Those are great performances, but you are suffering from a massive case of recency bias.
