RD 1, Pick 23: CB Kaiir Elam, Florida

Wonder why Elam over Booth? & While the trade isn't that steep, can't help wondering if Elam wouldn't have still been there at 25, given that neither Dallas nor Baltimore took a CB. Seems like Beane might have gotten jumpy & no one could wrestle the phone away from him in time. This is why you can't have coffee, energy drinks etc after noon.

If they can make tre white a top 5 corner

make Levi an undrafted player a functional starting corner who got a good contract

turn taron into one of the best nickel corners

then what can they do with this guy who has more gifts than all of them…

Was just thinking how little we talk about the staff getting no real credit for Whites development as if he came in elite - he was the 5th CB in that draft

nope - but saw every game of johnson at fsu including in person and i’m telling you he's better than anyone they have not named von miller

Gotcha. Well maybe you should send in your scouting reports to Beane. Clearly he’s doing something wrong building this team

Lol.

Chiefs 1st round pick was a corner and they traded their #1 WR just a few weeks ago.  Not to mention their first pick last year was a linebacker.

They also don't have Jake Kumerow as their backup Z and X receiver.  And have a All-Pro level TE.

Buffalo's strategy is not build up their defense with other teams (LVR, KC, LAC, CIN) featuring multiple top receivers paired with a QB.

Drafting defense given current rules doesn't work.  But McD gonna put that round peg in the square hole no matter what.

Obviously, traits were important to Beane in this pick.  Elam is long, fast and quick.  Beane must be assuming Buffalo can coach up his deficiencies in tackling and his tendency to take some penalties due to his aggressiveness in coverage.  My biggest question is why Beane thought a trade was necessary to move ahead of Dallas.  Nobody I saw ever suggested Dallas was going to draft a CB.  We'll probably have to wait and see if any rumors emerge to explain it.  In any case, is obvious that Buffalo's preference for Elam over Kyler Gordon and Andrew Booth had to be pretty strong to drive the trade.

My best guess is they got intel that someone was going to jump in front of the Bills to pick Elam and the worry wasn't Dallas themself
