Chiefs Fans Are Furious About The Stadium Speculation

Quote

Earlier this morning, Kansas City Chiefs president Mark Donovan made headlines with a comment about potential relocation.

According to a comment from Donovan, via Kevin Clark, the Chiefs are considering stadium options in Kanas. The team currently resides at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. “Chiefs prez Mark Donovan, when asked this AM about potential new stadium options, said the team has considered options in state of Kansas,” Clark said. “They like Arrowhead and legacy of Lamar Hunt’s stadium, but have been pitched by Kansas developers on a bunch of options. Something to watch.”

Have the other state and county kick in the $ and still have your team. What’s not to like?

That was my first thought also.

Though this does tend to make me think of the whole "Toronto bills" possibility so I can understand.

Not sure how significant the difference is in distance.

I worked with someone from Kansas City. She  grew up in Missouri, the people across the street lived in Kansas. Said she lived on State Line Road.

Because this is Kansas City

The Missouri river is the state line.

Basically, Kansas copied the Missouri Kansas City:

During this time, other settlements were developing across the river on the Kansas side in Wyandotte County. Some of these small towns incorporated as Kansas City, Kansas, in 1872. By naming this town after the growing city on the Missouri side of the state line, city leaders in Kansas were able to capitalize on the success of Kansas City, Missouri. It’s also possible that the people in Wyandotte County felt that they had more right to the name “Kansas City” than the people of Missouri had.

I don't think the fans are mad about Missouri vs. Kansas. Moreso about the idea of losing Arrowhead itself.

My grandparents lived two blocks away from that road, on the Missouri side.  It literally makes no difference. You could build the stadium in Kansas and have it be closer to downtown than Arrowhead is.

Now, if they decided to build it out in Lawrence or something, that would be annoying.

This brings up a question - why the hell are there two Kansas Citys?  Makes no sense. Why isn’t the town on the Mizzou side called Missouri City?

There aren't two. It's the same city, but since it is on the border, the city has portions on both sides.
