  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Vikings (Doc Brown) are on the clock

With the 76th pick, the Baltimore Ravens select Max Mitchell, OL, Louisiana.

The Ravens are ecstatic with the value they are getting in the 3rd round and have made huge strides in shoring up their offensive line.  The Ravens were able to go BPA and fill 3 positions of need so far.

The Vikings @Doc Brownare on the clock

With the 77th pick in the 2022 TSW Mock Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Martin Emerson, DB, Mississippi State.

Vikings go all defense with their first three picks and fill a need at CB.  Emerson is a tall and physical corner who uses both these traits to be effective in man and zone coverage (kid has 33 ½ inch arms).

The Browns @frostbitmic are on the clock.

With the 78th pick in the 2022 TSW Mock draft the Cleveland Browns select Nik Bonitto, Edge, Oklahoma

With Clowney and McKinley unsigned, two pass rushers have departed and only Chase Winovich has been signed to line up opposite Myles Garrett. Bonitto brings speed and a solid pass rush and he should earn some playing time as a rookie.

The Chargers @TPS are on the clock

Any other thoughts on Emerson? In that second tier of corners, he seems like the best fit for the Bills.

Depends who is in which tier.... my tiers of corners are:

Tier 1 - Booth, Sauce, Stingely

Tier 2 - Gordon, McDuffie, McCreary, Elam

Emerson is my next guy and likely the first who could get to #57. I think he is a bit high floor, lowish ceiling but he would be an upgrade on Levi.

This is a decent corner draft but there is a bit of a blind spot between those top 7 and the Woolen, Taylor, Bryant type tier. I have Emerson as the one guy kind of floating in that no-man's land. He is almost tier 3 on his own, then that next batch as tier 4.

  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Chargers (TPS) are on the clock

With the 79th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select Quay Walker, LB, Georgia.

The Chargers were looking at Spiller and Emerson as possible selections but, with both gone, they chose to select a more athletic MLB to pair with last year's R1 pick Murray.

Overall assessment (added): For a team that is expected to compete with the Chiefs in the AFCW, the Chargers have some serious holes to fill. The right side of the OL is simply not good.  OT Penning helps tremendously, though they will need to upgrade or add competition to RG. Other weaknesses on O include lack of adequate depth at WR, RB, and TE. On D, LB, and depth at boundary CB and IDL could be serious issues if injuries occur.  At LB, Walker could help Murray reach his potential.  Without a R2 pick, the Chargers still have some weaknesses that teams, in what may be the strongest division in the NFL, can exploit.  Of course, having Mack and Bosa rushing the passer will make it a lot easier on the D...

@mannc and the Houston Texans are now on the clock.

  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Texans (mannc) are on the clock

With the 80th pick in the 2022 TSW Mock Draft 1.0, the Houston Texans select Bryan Cook, S, Univ. of Cincinnati.

Cook is our third defensive back selected (and our third Cincinnati Bearcat, as well), but we feel he is a perfect replacement for Justin Reid, who left for Kansas City this offseason.  Cook is has the speed, size and toughness we are looking for at safety in a division populated by runners such as Jonathan Taylor and Derek Henry.  We expect him to be a day 1 starter, lining up next to his Bearcat teammate, Sauce Gardner.

The NY Football Giants and @LEBills are on the clock.

  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Giants (LEBills) are on the clock

With the 81st pick in the 2022 TSW Mock Draft 1.0, the New York Giants select Kerby Joseph, S, University of Illinois.

The Atlanta Falcons and @Alphadawg7 are now on the clock.

The Giants safety depth is non-existent and in the third round we get a center fielder to allow more single high safety looks.

Joseph has excellent range and a knack for taking the ball away. His run support is lacking to put it nicely, but late in the third round we are ok with that.

With the 82nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:  Phidarian Mathis, DT Alabama

We are excited to add one of the underrated DL players in the draft.  Mathis really broke out as a senior as he recorded 53 tackles, 12 TFL and 9 sacks in 2021.  He has the ability to get to the passer and is both quick and athletic for a man his size.  With his wide body, long arms, and powerful hands he can be a dense anchor in the middle and his play reminds us of Daquan Jones, recently signed by the Buffalo Bills.  We love his scheme versatility and look forward to seeing him come in and complete to start.

And with that last pick (Pick #82) The Falcons and its GM Alphadawg7 have concluded their 3 round draft.  Quick Draft recap:

We entered the draft with needs just about everywhere as we begin this rebuild process.  Accustomed to a high flying offense here in Atlanta with the likes of Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, and so many more greats...we saw some opportunities to really improve our offense in the post Ryan and Julio era while also nabbing some defensive help along the way.

1st - Pick 8:  Garret Wilson WR, Ohio St

2nd - Pick 11:  Sam Howell QB, UNC

2nd - Pick 26:  Trey Smith, OL, Tulsa

3rd - Pick 10:  Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M

3rd - Pick 18:  Phidarian Mathis, DT, Alabama

We are quite pleased getting what we feel was great value in both our 2nd round picks and both our 3rd round picks.  Howell will be given a chance to compete, but with Mariota here, there is no need to rush him along.  We look forward to getting Wilson and Spiller on the field with our other weapons like Pitts and Patterson.  And feel really good about starting to rebuild our trenches with Smith and Mathis, both guys we felt we got great value on where we got them and will come in and immediately help our team and compete to start.

With the 83rd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft the Philadelphia Eagles select Brandon Smith, LB, Penn State. This is certainly a need and Smith is the kind of huge upside player the Eagles have not had in a long time. Smith oozes athletic potential and he is long. Some measurements for, uh, good measure:

On top of all that he is typically all over the field. He has some rawness to his game, but I think he is a great fit and really happy he was here in the 3rd.

With that, in the first three rounds in this draft 1.0, the Eagles came away with Jordan Davis, Jermaine Johnson II, Drake London, Breece Hall, and Brandon Smith.

The Steelers and @Virgil are now on the clock.

With the 84th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT, Ohio State.

After going offensive weapons with the first two picks, the Steelers are thrilled to get a value player who can immediately start.  The Steelers had large opportunities in protecting Ben last year, and the trenches have taken a beating in Pittsburgh.

The New England Patriots @Bill from NYC are on the clock
