Even with Bates coming back we would have needed to add 2 additional interior lineman. Don't think it has anything to do with him. He might also stick if Buffalo decides Bates is going to start at guard. Maybe with a top notch offensive line coach, his play can be elevated somewhat, but I would hat to have to depend on that for any length of time. IMHO most likely Bates competes fopr RG starting spot with Ford (if still here), this signee and a C/G mid-round draftee. We could easily lose him if there is an offer. I'm hoping we don't, but the fact that most of us don't want to lose him could easily mean other teams might want him enough to give him a tough offer to match.
