Despite SCOTUS Roe Leak, Republicans Double Democrat Turnout in Ohio Primaries

by Katherine Hamilton

Data from the New York Times shows Republicans cast 1,068,817 ballots in the GOP primary for governor, the highest number of ballots cast in a midterm primary in two decades, according to the Republican National Committee (RNC). GOP voters outdid themselves by roughly 200,000 votes compared to 2018 gubernatorial primary numbers and increased their turnout by 29 percent.

In stark contrast, only 502,100 Democrats cast their ballots, a 26 percent decrease from 679,738 ballots cast in 2018.

Demoocrats’ Disdain for Rural Americans Is Their Real Midterms Problem.

“Rural voters who are worrying about financial issues probably aren’t as concerned with abortion on demand and propping up teachers who talk to first-graders about gender reassignment as coastal Dems are.”

Influential Republicans in Washington and among the nationwide party elite are having a belated "oh s--t" moment over the previously unimaginable prospect that Kathy Barnette could win their party's nomination for the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania.

Why it matters: In Barnette, who's been soaring in the polls ahead of Tuesday's primary, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would be dealing with a general election candidate who'd be an opposition researcher's dream — potentially endangering the GOP effort to take back the Senate.

McConnell has been fixated on ensuring the 2022 midterms are not a repeat of the 2012 or 2010 cycles.

The Kentuckian said Republicans missed good chances to win the majority in those years because they nominated candidates who talked about things like "legitimate rape" or had to publicly assure voters they weren't witches.
