No money for new stadium in Hochoul’s Tuesday Budget proposal

How do you know they aren't against it?  Maybe they have already told her they aren't supporting  massive share of the build, hence it's not in the budget yet.  Downstate state politicians really don't care about Buffalo's identity--they would likely say they can keep the Bills if the owner kick in for nearly all of the cost.  They recall just a few years ago the last billion the state wasted on Buffalo.  Why would they be eager to funnel more wasted money to Buffalo again?

But as it relates to politics and the stadium, it needs to be said that Hochul is leading in polls among her party by a healthy margin and the two perceived strongest downstate opponents, James and DiBlasio, are both not running.

 

Plus, Hochul is from Buffalo. The biggest threat for her will be if she doesn't get a deal done.

 

As you point out, she is running unopposed by her party so whether a stadium done won't likely matter as the vast majority of her votes will come from Westchester, all 5 boroughs and Long Island.  

 

I really don't know why posters here think local downstate politicians are concerned that a new stadium is built in Buffalo.  There's no logic to it.  They all would have a project in their district in mind that could use a billion dollars.

Because if they were against it then they would’ve already come out a long time ago and announced they weren’t supporting it. The fact that Poloncarz and Hochoul and others have confirmed that the deal is getting close and that talks have been great literally confirms that downstate officials aren’t against it. Seems like your looking for anything to prove that your right. Almost seems like you want the Bills to leave. Also tax payers are going to be fronting majority of the money toward the stadium. That’s just how this works, deal with it.

How it doesn’t work announcements are made by downstate lawmakers alerting the public of their opposition.  Everyone knows that public money will be spent.  The point is how much.  This is where the legislators tell the governor (not you and me) how much they would approve.  Pretty simple.

 

And there’s no reason for the Bills to move at all.  Perils can afford to close any gap in funding with cash on hand. If he moves the team it’s because he wants to.

Why would they budget that much for next year?   They would not start spending real money until 2024 when they break ground in Q4 2023 which is best case scenario.

Hey just trying to help the WNYers out.  Y'all are gonna pay for the stadium with tax dollars anyway.  I was just suggesting that opening up additional funding for out of state residents may not be a bad idea should a deal fall through with NY.  As a non resident I would throw some money at keeping the team there in a new stadium.   The Packers have been doing it that way for almost a century.
