Dallas Cowboys fans throw trash at the refs after heartbreaking NFL playoff loss; Dak Prescott says 'credit to them'

They showed a sky cam of the last play, and the umpire was running as fast as he could to get the ball and set it down; it was a dumbass play considering the time left. 😄

I think they get it off if he hands it to him. The red probably doesn’t try barrelling through him and the offensive lineman to touch the football

Additionally - you see the side judge marking the LOS at between the 25 and 26 yard line - where Dak started his slide.

Dak hands the ball to the center and they are lined up at the 24 - not at the right spot.  The Ref tries to move them back, but realizes it isn’t going to work and let’s them try to spike it to get the last play.

The Refs did everything they could on the play to help facilitate getting off the spike because that is what the Refs do, but because Dak did not hand the ball to the Ref and because the OLine lined up with tight splits and finally because they lined up in the incorrect yard mark - you get the issue they had.

It is 100% on Dak, the OC, and the HC that they didn’t get a play off.

The worst part is that should all be ingrained - it was talked about in the post game, by former players and coaches.  The consensus was you need about 17-18 seconds to comfortably get a play off in bounds and get a spike.  The play also can not go more than 10 yards or you are pushing it because of the location of the back judge to spot the ball.

Dak extended it to 15+ yards on the scramble, didn’t hand the ball immediately to the official running to mark it, lined his team up incorrectly, and then blamed the Refs.  Terrible leadership and I hope the NFL fines and suspends him for his comments.  That was disgusting - how he acted.

And they practiced it!

That means they should have known exactly how much time it takes, and how far Dak can run.

Agreed, but did they practice it with an official that starts 12 yards behind the LOS and can’t be moving forward until the play is nearly done - or did McCarthy and Moore practice it exactly like they did it in the game - slide - get everyone lined up and spike it - cutting 3-5 seconds off.

The former coaches on NFL radio - roundly criticized them for saying they practiced it and got it spiked with 1 second left.  They were saying you never cut it that close - if a play gets you a spike with less than 5 seconds in practice - then you can’t run it in a game setting.  It is a 50:50 mix in a live game.

The ref needed the ball and did everything he could to get to it.  The Cowboys knew that, and Dak gave the ball to his center instead.  The poor ref had to squeeze himself between two linemen who did not move to let him past, and still looked like he was doing everything he could to let Dallas get the spike.  The Cowboys made every mistake on that play and did nothing to help the ref help them.  No sympathy here.

Dallas Defense couldn't stop shooting themselves in the foot. They had the Niners off the field with plenty of time for a game winning drive if it weren't for an undisciplined hands to the face call, on a drive ending 3rd down so egregious the refs had no choice but to throw the flag.

Bad coach and a good QB who thinks he's great, that team will never win anything except some Division titles in the arguably the worst division in football.

Let's give the ref some credit for sprinting 30yds, barreling through linemen, and snatching the ball from the center, in an effort to get the play off in under 13 seconds.

The Ref came flying in like he had bet his life savings on the Cowboys

Actually it would have been 2 Hail Marys from the 40.  Dak scrambled to around the 25.

I bet one shot from the 25 is a decently higher percentage play than the two Hail Marys.  Looked like the cowboys were well rehearsed in that whole situation and knowing how much time they needed to get the spike off but they forgot to factor the officials in

Not sure why he spent a second picking up the ball and waving it around like a weirdo after all that effort though…I think he just could’ve touched it

I think that it would have been 0% either way, but at least they would get 2 chances with the Hail Mary.

Even if they had gotten the spike off, the Cowboys still needed 40yds 25yds to get to the end zone.

They could have gotten 2 hail-mary's off if Dak wasn't so stupid.

edit: remembered where Dak had started running, not where he slid.

It still would have been illegal formation the way they lined up for the spike.
