In a worst case weather scenario (steady winds 25-35 mph with gusts of 40-60, with possible lake effect snow) a passing game becomes very difficult.  Intermediate passes become an adventure, and deep passes are virtually impossible.  Of course, the kicking game is also greatly affected.  The stadium is oriented northwest to southeast and the forecast is for westerly winds after the cold front passes.  One team will have the wind somewhat at their backs, while the other will have to drive into the wind versus a straight crosswind, but there will also be a crosswind factor for both teams.  Then, of course the stadium structure will affect what the wind does too.  Swirling and shifting will take place.  The good news is that Mac Jones has likely never faced anything like what he'll be seeing on Monday evening.  The weather will also mitigate the loss of Tre White.  Josh Allen has faced this kind of wind before, and of the two QBs Josh Allen has the arm to drive and spin the ball better through the winds.  Of course, the Patriots have shown the better running game.

rushing yards per game in 2021, Buffalo is ranked 11th, New England is 12th.....

we average 4.6 YPC, NE avg 4.1 YPC

I think the run game is going to be a surprise. We saw flashes against the Saints - Breida adds a dimension, and it opened up things for Singletary. Now, we have Brown back.

It won't be as good as the Pats, but I don't think it will be night & day.

Hey, does anyone know what the weather will be like for Monday night? just curious. 😆

All i know is that in last year's playoff game vs. Baltimore.. the conditions weren't good for passing.  The winds were blowing.  Baltimore averaged like 500 yards rushing per game...and the not-so-good Bills D shut em down.

Typically if you let McDermott/Frazier focus only on the run, they can stop it. It's the balanced teams that give them trouble on the ground.

Passing is about matchups, running is about numbers. Our D usually responds well when a team is one-dimensional and allows us to come up and play the run, and Edmunds doesn't need to worry much about receivers getting behind him off play action.

So if the weather almost completely neutralizes Mac Jones while Allen is hampered but still capable, I like our chances.

McD has given me moments of doubt - but that game & others have assured me that he's our guy for the long term.  That defensive gameplan was one for the ages, imo.  It was perfect.

How do the open air stadium fans feel about the fact the Bills will always practice inside whenever there is wind or precipitation?

you should practice indoors to get the plays down. You need to have good practices

1986 game vs Steelers.  Marv Levy's and Steve Tasker's first game with Bills vs. Steelers. Robb Riddick grinding out yards moving into the wind was a key to a win.

Bills 16 and Steelers 12

This game was dry but wind was 30+ mph and neither team could throw moving toward the scoreboard end.  Robb could get yards vs. a stacked defense and thereby burn the clock and avoid having to punt into the wind.  I would pick Moss to do something similar for monday's game.

Short crossing routes with picks/rubs for big YAC (Phil Rivers of perfect weather SD Chargers in 2014) and 3rd down QB scrambles and RB screens (Carson Wentz in 2019) were successful strategies opponents used to beat the Bills in past wind affected games.  If you are a betting type, my advice is to play the under.

I know. And everything gets thrown off once the wet and windy weather hits. That's the point. Doesn't make any sense.

Build a dang closed roof stadium.

But the Pats practice outdoors and they will beat the Bills according to everyone.

Tear down the dang closed roof practice facility.

No worries.

The Bills under Sean McDermott have a totally accurate 3d model of the stadium.

Before the game, they will enter the exact winds into the wind tunnel with the model.

There will be no surprises.

Josh will be droppin' them in like a Steve Carlton slider.

Weather should never drastically affect sports.

Patriots can practice outside the majority of the year because their weather doesn't drastically affect practice.
