We miss John Brown

I believe Manny Sanders is a better WR than Brown and is an overall upgrade, but it seems we're missing that WR that can really stretch the field.  And I understand that defenses are playing the Bills differently with the whole Cover 2 shell basically forcing us into a short passing game.  But without a true deep threat on the field at all times like Brown, that shell seems to get tighter and tighter.  Against the Jags the only time we really got the ball down the field was when Allen stretched the play running for his life and found an open WR out of the original context of the play.  Within the structure of the plays, it was CONSTANT short passes to Singletary and Beas for trivial yardage.

I don't know what the answer is here because I'm not advocating bringing Smoke back even if he's available.  And maybe the answer isn't a speed WR it's just ANOTHER great weapon (although Brown wasn't a great weapon), which could be resolved once Knox is back and healthy--hopefully this week.

Maybe we should legitimately kick the tires on Beckam.  I think Allen would do a better job getting him the ball.

Maybe try McKenzie or Stevenson on the outside?

I just think in the last couple weeks it's becoming clear that outside of Diggs we really don't have any explosive capability on offense and Allen is understandably resorting to Hero ball because of it.

The answer is:

1. Draft/sign road grade OL

2. Find better RB

3. Insert running game

4. Force D to stack the box

5. Reserect the play action

.....the cover 2 will disappear.....

Cowherd rehashed an old saying describing what's currently happening to Mahomes & Allen this season. "Players that can do anything try to do everything ". That's the hero ball we see Josh resort to.

It's a tragic fact that Daboll has to rectify.

Really, how would anyone possibly know that since he only played 9 games last year and of those 9 only three of them are worth even talking about.

He didn't stretch the field as he was hardly on the field.

If we need anything at WR, it's a big, physical WR with skill.  Someone who Allen can throw contested jump balls to down the field when we desperately need a big play or flag.

As good as our WR's are, there is no DK, AJ, Mike Williams, Hopkins or Ceedee Lamb on this roster.

The Mike Williams who has a grand total of 6 catches his last 3 games played? I'm not sure if I'd want him.

I dont think he got cut. I thought he asked for his release. Twice.

From the Raiders, it was one of these "you can't fire me, I quit" things I believe - he asked for his release because he was "on the bubble" and hoped, by being on the market a couple days before final cuts, to be factored into another team's roster plans.

Didn't work out that way.

He wasn't cut from the 49ers practice squad, but I also think he didn't need to 'ask for his release'; practice squad players are FA who are free to talk to any team and free to sign with any team, any time

No we don't. And obviously nobody else wants him either. Teams are desperate for quality receivers currently. He's currently selling Term Life Insurance somewhere. We need quality offensive lineman, Stat! This is a pointless thread.

He just signed to the Panthers practice squad.

As a guy who has estimated $31M career earnings, let's hope he has no need to sell anything anywhere unless he wants to.
