The Georgia Dome lasted 20 years and the dome in St Louis was already obsolete after 20 year and was a reason the Rams left. What happened to building something that lasts? I would hope that if the Bills get a $1.4 billion stadium, they are in it for 40-50 years. Heinz Field in Pittsburgh was a very low cost stadium and everyone is happy with that. Build walls around it, with a one way door. In. Chicago doesn't deserve an NFL team, not even a perennial loser like the Bears. I don't care where they go - LA, Flint, MI, or Jacksonville to be crosstown rivals to the Jags, or fold all together. Yeah, I knew it was in the same space, but I thought it was basically new ($500 million was a lot in 2000 too). I hope any stadium Erie County/NYS contributes to has a lease rent agreement that Bills need to pay back lease WITHOUT ability to pay it off early and leave. Make it more economical for Bills to just borrow from NFL and have Erie County/NYS pay for infrastructure, traffic control, etc. Bills would collect any parking revenue, any events held there, etc. Doubt parties will do what makes sense. Can't be as bad as WTF stadium where you can not even attend unless you pay either for parking or shuttle bus for "safety" (of $nyder's wallet). All they kept were the columns and they built a brand new stadium inside the pillars. It looks pretty bad - it looks like a spaceship landed inside the classic pillars. The two styles just don't match architectually at all. The accessiblity is difficult (on the lakefront, east of Lake Shore Drive, a very busy multi-lane (in both directions) "expressway" that separates the lakefront from the city. There is limited parking and some if its ramps, so the tailgating is very limited. Tickets are extremely expensive. I used to live in Chicago and the only time I went to games were 1) if the Bills were in town or 2) I was offered free tickets AND the Bills were not playing at the same time. I turned down free tickets to see the Bears at Sodier Field many times in favor of watching the Bills on TV. It's still a classic venue and a good place to see an NFL game. It would suck if they moved to Arlington Heights (a suburb) and would change the character of the franchise. The spot they are considering is the site of Arlington Raceway and old, but nice/fun horse racing venune. The Bears and Soldier Field aside, I don't get the hate for Chicago expressed by a poster a few posts up. It's a great city. Great people, fantastic architecture, great food, tons to do indoors and out, and the list goes on. It's a world-class city, but has great neighborhoods and a midwestern type of feel. Honestly, it's a lot like a bigger, more cosmopolitan Buffalo, and when I lived there, there was a huge community of Buffalo ex-pats who were friends and hung out to watch Bills games at a couple of bars, went to see the Bills and Sabres while in town, etc. That is still the case. The city has had its challenges with gun violence, protests, etc., but so have many other big cities. I have spoken with my friends who still live there and visited there recently, and a lot of this has been overblown by the media. And Marv still lives there, in my old neighborhood, where I ran into him a couple of times over the years and chatted a little bit about the Bills. People like to hate on everything and anything For what it's worth I've always thought Chicago was like a much bigger Buffalo as well... Buffalo has that Midwest type vibe opposed to a NYC or Boston vibe... Beautiful architecture , food etc Not to mention it's a Midwestern dialect we speak in Buffalo...
