I do believe that he could eventually become a formidable pro QB along the lines of what Brady was with Belicheck, but hopefully Belicheck is fishing along side Jimmy Johnson by the time he reaches that potential. Kind of a semantics thing but I'd say thats more being worried about the team than mac jones himself. It's so insanely unrealistic to think that the Pats will have the two greatest quarterbacks of all time go back to back. The number of things that had to come together for Brady to become what he is today is also astronomical. You just described a game manager. Maybe some day he will become more than a game manager, but today, he's a rookie game manager. Why be afraid of the future? Which more than anything confirms that Belichick* isn't allowing him to make too many risky throws. It would seem that the plan for Mac & Cheese is for him to have a slow ascendance, and only let him run plays that he feels perfectly comfortable in. Honestly, comparing how the Patriots* are developing Mac & Cheese to how the Jets are "developing" Zack & Wheeze is pretty remarkable (quotation marks unfortunately necessary). Mac & Cheese spent the offseason with a seasoned vet (Cam), and now has an even older vet (Hoyer) in the QB room. He's well protected on the field, and is running a simple playbook. Zack & Wheeze spent the offseason with two of the scrubbiest QBs in the league who are barely qualified to hold a clip board, and he's now battling for his life every Sunday.
