McDermott Game Day Decision Making

Go for it from the 35 on 4th down

Go for it from the 50 on 4th down

From the 35.  Trust Bass.  Field Goal Try

From the 50 Trust Your D,  Pin Pittsburgh Deep,

Instead his decisions gave Pittsburgh good/great field position twice.

Why?   He knows as well as anyone the significance field position and momentum plays,   If Bass makes the kick, that is a huge boost for the Bills.  Punt from the 50 and play D.  Pittsburgh is not KC on offense.

Even with McDermott's field position gifts, the Bills D only gave up 16 points.   Good enough to win.

If he coaches better, and plays field position, they most likely give up less.

Too much Coaching to be a hero.

No problem with decisions to go for it,  both his assistants struggled with play calling .  The 4th down call where Josh throws it back was a huge stinker and Frazier again like in the game against KC played too conservative

Disagree on Leslie. Thought his playcalling was good.

Didn't like McDermott's decisions today for the most part.

I don't fault McDermott going for it if this were last year and we were rolling. This year, with a retooled OL, Dawkins struggling, Josh clearly not in a rhythm, it seemed very off. Did the big contract Allen got include "go for it" veto power? He always want to go for it, and I love that about him. But we need a coach to override with experience. It was as if we were trying to gamble on last year's credit. And we ate the losses.

Even with all of this a blocked punt for a TD was the difference in the game.

True Dat.  But if we had more points on the board and made the Steelers drive down a long field, maybe the blocked punt TD is not the difference.

Don’t think we can mention decision making without mentioning the playcall of the pitch back to Singletary on 4th and 1.

Yes, probably that was Daboll’s call, but it was so bizarre I just heard a commentator saying “that play looked good on the board in July, not on the field in September”.  I can’t say they’re wrong.

Meh. They did this plenty last season and it worked.

I’ll say it again, the Bills lost because Josh Allen, Daboll and the offense were *****…. That falls on McD as well.

You can say it again and again. But that won't make it true.

Anybody defending Sean McDermott after today’s bs performance is just a homer at this point.

Guy was gutless in the AFC Title game, and it carried over to Game 1 today.

I’ve said all off season I wanted to see Josh perform with fans in the stands. So far, epic failure. He fkn sucked today. His missed throws are the reason we lost.
