In your opinion, what’s the hardest position?

Recommended Posts

Anyone who said “QB” is obviously not

thinking straight. You’re saying Tom Brady plays the most difficult position in sports (dink, dunk, hand off, sneak) and Tre White doesn’t (trying to cover Speedsters, crossing routes, deep routes, keeping eye on RB’s, tackling TE’s and RB’s). You’re all out of your gourds.

There are 3 other DBs doing the same thing at the same time with Tre.

Only 1 QB.  Has to decipher the D, go through every option based on his reading of the D and direct the entire offense—all in the seconds before and after the snap—on every play.

Its QB and it’s not even close

lol yes---the QB just hands the ball off all the time.

No I was referring to the 62% of the plays where Allen and Brady threw the ball.

Run plays?  Most of those the DB jogs along with his WR a bit until the whistle blows.

Once again, you need to factor in the offense knows what they are doing. He defense plays reactionary. Especially CB. There can be no debate.

Definitely a QB in football, he has to know everyone's position and then physically make all the right moves. There are only about 12 great QBs on the planet, much less than all other positions, hence why they are paid most.

Agreed for these reasons plus the fact of having to pre-read defenses and pressures to get his players into the right position with the play calls or audible out if he feels the defense has the advantage on a particular play call.

Followed by CB. With all the new rules favoring the WR's, a CB has to play so carefully to not get flagged, plus be instinctive  and incredibly athletic. With receivers now gaining a height advantage too, it's really hard to be a shutdown corner on a teams #1 WR.

CB or Center.  Center has to set the blocking with the other OL, while worry about getting a clean snap and blocking instantly.

Was just going to post C but you beat me to it.

If you have a bad center the run game suffers and you'll have people in the QB's face all day.  Kent Hull was always a favorite Bill of mine for that reason.  Underrated player/understated gentleman.  R.I.P coming up on 10 years already

You can argue that CB requires more physical skills and demands than any other position.  It is the hardest position on Defense.

QB is the only position that adds in the throwing arm and the only position that you possess the ball (while in play) on every offensive play.  Today’s QB must throw and run.  QB more is far more mentally demanding and requires split second decision making.

In the league today, their are more elite and top level CBs than there are QBs.   QB is the hardest position to draft and develop.  It comes down to numbers and QB talent is the rarest, and the hardest to draft and develop.

Since Jim Kelly retired we have drafted numerous Pro Bowl CB’s (Clements, Winfield, Gilmore and White) and only 1 impact QB in Josh Allen.

Insightful (inciteful?) commentary as such shows why your office is the mecca for informed discourse in your town. 😁 How is Gabby Greta?

I do agree that the nature of a defensive back's assignment is probably the most difficult.  Always required to be a reactionary to the play, and hope there's not a 'flag happy' officiating crew.

Nonsense.

Brady was most of the reason they won those SBs, and it wasn't because he handed off well. It was because he made decisions better than any other QB for about fifteen years and then accurately made those decisions work. If it was all that easy, there'd be a ton of Bradys.

Only about 10 guys in the world play QB well enough to put their teams in a position to win a Super Bowl on a consistent basis.

CBs don't have as much of an impact, but there are an awful lot more guys who can play the position at a high level than there are QBs.

CBs certainly have a much harder job in terms of athleticism needed. But QBs have to have accuracy and arm strength to a certain standard, and that isn't all that easy to do physically either, especially when guys are trying to sack you.

And the mental part of the job, not to mention the mental preparation, is a ton harder for QBs.

Physically, someone above said TE, and I think that's right. TEs who can do it all have to be athletic beyond belief, really really tough, and yet terrifically fast for their size.
